Thomson Airways Gives You The Chance to Name its First 787 Dreamliner

26 Jul 2012 | Dreamliner Blog

#nameourplane 2

Here at Thomson we are incredibly excited about the delivery of our brand new 787 Dreamliners next year. To help share this enthusiasm we’ve decided to let you choose what the first Dreamliner will be named via Twitter using the #nameourplane.

You can name it after yourself, your partner, your child or relative or you can think up an original name you think is cool – you just need to give us a good reason why it should be you that gets to name our plane.

To let the whole world know about our competition we’ve added #nameourplane onto the side of one of our 737 aircrafts, so keep your eyes peeled for that plane as it’s going to be flying to and from your favourite holiday destinations all summer.

Top Twitter Suggestions So Far: @robertmcullen – The Dream Catcher, @Alx_Rogers – Tweet Dreamer, @glorygloryTH – Cloud Surfer, @JgManchester – Amelia Earhart, @pencisely – Cloud Cruiser, @benwalkernz – Dreamweaver, @chads999 – T Bird, @Lindylulu47 – The Sky lounger, @braybray72 – Royal Wings, @MJC1611 – Tui-infinity and beyond, @joanneasfabfella – Skywriter, @planespotter – Sky Gazer, @hussyfad – Dream bird, @Filoufi – Tropical Dreams, @victoria10 – Daydream Believer

All entries to the competition need to be made on Twitter, and those that spot the plane should enter by tweeting an image or the location of where they spotted our hashtag along with their reasons why they should get to name the new 787 Dreamliner. Those who don’t get a glimpse of the hashtagged 737 can still tweet their suggested name.

#nameourplaneEntrants will need to have a think about what they say as they’ll have just 140 characters (including the hashtag) to make their case. Remember those that include any original twitpics of the tagged plane will be given special consideration, so keep your eyes peeled!

The competition runs from 23 July – 30 September, so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to spot the plane and think of why you should be the person to name it. We’ll pick out our top ten entries and then our panel of judges including: Chris Browne, Managing Director of Thomson Airways, Captain Stuart Gruber, Thomson Airways’s Head of Training and the 787 test pilot and Todd Nelp, Vice President of

Thomson Airlines

Sales for Europe for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Not only will the winner get their chosen name on the side of our first 787 Dreamliner there’ll also get the chance to unveil the name and fly on one of the plane’s first flights.

Keep up to date on the developments of the competition on our Twitter feed @thomsonholidays

Don’t forget to read the Terms and Conditions.

  3. Thomson Precision says:

I called it Precision because Thomson and the Dreamliner are Quality @ Precise

  4. PJ McBride says:

I think it should be called #the eye in the sky because its so big :)

  5. George Pow says:

    It should be called ThosonDREAMFLYER

  6. Y Cornish says:

Brilliant idea to name our plane competition, BUT Thomson why only Twitter entries? not everyone, me included uses Social Networks! so I cannot enter. ……Not Fair!!

    • Hollie @Thomson says:

I’m sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately, only names sent through to us on Twitter will be considered. ^Hollie

  16. B 767 says:

    The perfect name, Speedbird One

    • Lenny C says:

Best not call it Speedbird One.
Speedbird is the call sign for BA aircraft!
Don’t think Thomson would be too amused!!

  17. chris conway says:

it should be called british delight becouse thomson is a british airline

  18. george dunn says:

I think that it should be called Mr Blue Sky. the colours match yout=r corporate colours, the lyrics of the song are a good fit to the aircraft and to good times. It feels good

  19. John Taylor says:

It should be called Dreammaker I cant wait for it to come into service

  20. Peter Shore says:

I have entered the name ‘Britannia Spirit’. Britannia was the great airline that got Thomson off the ground. Indeed i flew on one of the 4 engined Britannia 102 ‘Whispering Giants’ turbo prob aircraft just before they were exchanged for the 737 jets. Britannia was a charter carrier second to non and this would be a great opportunity to remember that in combining our adoration of the airlines history with the present spirit held with the dreamliner.

  21. Patricia Harrison says:

We only have a ‘Facebook’ Acc.
All aircraft are female because of their beauty so carrying on with the Thomson name I think that ‘Thomasina Princess of the Skies’ fits perfectly

  22. Josh Skelcher says:

Hi i dont know how to publish the name i like on twitter.
I would love to call your plane Skelcher because thats my nickname and i would love to see my name on one of your fab planes and it would be an ace early 13 bday present.
    Thank You

  23. Alison Parker says:

I would like to say what a wonderful plane !!! Therefore I think it should be named Tom/cruise liner like a star !!!!

  24. David Hewitt says:

Opened Twitter account hope I entered name the plane ok.My idea was “Carribean Smile” followed by TUI smile logo, aircraft callsign would end with CS. Not managed to see name our plane aircraft I was on a TUI fly Nordic plane back into MAN last week.

  25. Alison Parker says:

This plane would be the next biggest thing to the Olympics .i would really want to discover this most fantastic invention

  26. Marcus Holmes says:

You are talking about the Dreamliner 787 and naming it etc on your front page, but you are showing pictures of a Boeing 737 not a dreamliner.

    • Rhiannon @Thomson says:

Hi Marcus, We’ve got one of our planes flying with the #nameourplane on to support our competition.

  27. Alison Parker says:

    Discovery

  28. Martin Bates says:

    Erm…..that’s a 737.

    • Rhiannon @Thomson says:

Hi Martin, You’ll see our #nameourplane on our 737 but it’s advertising our competition to name our Dreamliner.

  29. Kieran Samuel says:

  32. Christopher Dickinson says:

Mighty Hood After HMS Hood Sank 24 May 1941

  33. Gareth says:

I don’t have a Twitter Account but would like to enter the competition. I think the plane should be named “Constellation” after the Lockheed Aircraft that was used by Euravia(London) who flew the first package holidays in 1962. The interior design of 787-9 and Dreamliner name suit my suggestion. As we know Euravia became Britannia after the company started using Bristol Britannia’s, this would also be another good name. Very fond of this airline as flew my first flight on the 737-200 in 1970 from Man to Palma and my first 767-200 flight too.

  34. Franor says:

We would like to call the dreamliner; sweetdreams or bluedreams

  35. Franor says:

We think the Dreamliner should be named; sweetdreams, bluebird or bluedreams

  36. Dave thomson says:

    Twitter is for idiots.

    Probably your target market?

  37. Bailey Maslen says:

    Sky?

  38. David Halley says:

I think it should be called the holiday maker

  39. Kay Fletcher says:

I’m veering way from other comments and I would like to see your new baby called Annabelle Alicia – she’s my 4-year old grand-daughter, and in her short life she’s seen me have major surgery twice and has been my tonic. It’s my dream to take her and her family to Disneyland and I’ve told her she’s got to save. We’ve got our bank account ready and the pennies are falling in. We chose the thompson brocure BECAUSE of the Dreamliner and I will take her to see it when it comes to East Midlands Airport. Her little Dreamliner and Disneyland book go where she goes. She says it’s ‘her plane’ !!!

  40. Kay Fletcher says:

OMG ! just seen that the competition closed on 2nd – missed it !

Hi David, I can confirm that we’ve named the first Dreamliner, the winner was announced in October 2012. You can check this out on the the following link: http://bit.ly/TSoCEJ.

  51. hemkin says:

i’d like it to be called blue bird (blue for sky and bird for freedom of travelling )

  52. Fraser Pearson says:

Hi I know I properly won’t be flying on the dreamliner but I’m going to Heraklion 2013 from eastmidlands on tom7442 so I was wondering if any one could tell me

    • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Fraser, Our Dreamliner will only be flying to Mexico and Florida from May.

  53. Rich m says:

I am flying from Bristol to Sanford on 5 June 2013, returning two weeks later. We are in premium. I saw on the website that the planes have had new interiors. Is this right? Are there any photos anywhere? Also what benefits do we get from being premium? My friend booked it so I know very little other than the price! Thanks.

    • Christina @Thomson says:

Hi Rich, If you’d like to email your booking reference to cares@thomson.co.uk then I’ll be able to see which plane you’ll be travelling on. I’ll be able to answer your questions once I have this information. Regarding your Premium seating, there are a number of benefits – as well as extra baggage weight, you get extra leg room and comfy leather seats with head supports. Many Premium seats also have foot supports. You’ll also get a 9-inch seatback TV that you can play, pause and rewind, which means you can control what you watch, with 16 movies – 8 each way – among your options. With regards to food on your flight, you’ll be served a 4-course meal. All your drinks will also be included in Premium class, with the exception of champagne. I hope this helps.

    • Rich m says:

Thanks Christina – I have emailed you.

  54. Trish P says:

As i dont twitter can I make my suggestion for the name here. I feel ‘dream maker’ would be right as peoples dream holidays are being made by yourselves

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Trish, That’s a great suggestion, but unfortunately the competition has now ended. Sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

  55. Steve B says:

    Hello,
Are Thomson going to issue a statement regarding any concerns about the recent groudings of the 787′s in Japan?
Very worrying as I fly in June to Mexico and booked this holiday partly for the flight on the Dreamliner.

    • Joanne @Thomson says:

      Hi Steve,

We appreciate your concerns and want to reassure you that we’re continuing to work closely with Boeing. We have spoken to Boeing and they have assured us that they’re working to recitfy all issues that have been highlighted to them. Have you been to Mexico before?

  56. sarah says:

We are due to fly to Mexico on honeymoon june 4th on your dreamliner.
We are a bit concerned with the current groundings in Japan, regarding the safety of this plane. Do you have any comments due to recent incidents

    • Joanne @Thomson says:

      Hi Sarah,

We appreciate your concerns and want to reassure you that the safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority. We’ve spoken to Boeing who’ve reassured us they are reviewing all the issues highlighted to them and working to rectify them as quickly as possible. At this current time, Boeing have told us that this won’t affect our delivery dates of the Dreamliner. We want to reassure you that we have the utmost confidence in the safety of this aircraft.

  57. Ashley Warrington says:

We are due to fly to Mexico in June on one of your dreamliners which we were looking forward to. Now we hope the dreamliner is taken out of service and grounded indefinitely. Oil Leaks, electrical fires, probems with the brakes and emergency landings are hardly going to instill confidence in anybody flying on it? The question is do Boeing know how to fix the problems on the 787? 3 years of delays and still problems exist, so the answer at this moment in time is no. How can Boeing say that your delivery time won’t be affected when they have not fixed the problems yet? It could take them 6 months to find out what the problems are. Hopefully your orders are delayed and we can fly on a safe plane like the 767!!!

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Ashley, We understand your concerns over the recent issues and want to reassure you that the safety of our customers is paramount, and this will remain our number one priority. We’re in constant communication with Boeing and can confirm they’ve assured us that they’re working to rectify the problems that have been highlighted to them. We’re still on track to receive our first Thomson Dreamliner in May and remain very confident that the issues will be resolved.

  58. Ashley Warrington says:

Why has my earlier post been removed?

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Ashley, it seems like your post is still online. We do have to view all comments before they’re posted to our blogs. I hope that helps.

  59. Mark says:

I have only just seen that we have the opportunity to name the plane. My family are she to fly to Florida on board the Dreamliner in may 2013 for a very special holiday and I have the perfect name that would mean the world to me and my daughter. Am I too late to make a suggestion please??????

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Mark, Unfortunately the competition has now ended. Your holiday sounds like it’s going to be a special one, is this your first time to Florida?

  60. abbie says:

We have booked a holiday to florida departing 10/07 from gatwick. Given today’s news that all dreamliners around the world have been grounded, could you please advise as to what alternative plans are in place? The fact that the aircraft is still with the manufacturer is not sufficient for me to pay my holiday in full without knowing if/how we are getting to florida. These issues could take months to resolve.

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Abbie, We’re currently aware of the recent news reports regarding the 787 Dreamliner and we appreciate how this may cause concern for our customers who are set to travel with us on the new 787 Dreamliner. If there was to be any change to your holiday our Programme Change Team will contact you with your options. We’re still confident that we’ll take delivery of our first Dreamliner. For anyone wishing to amend or cancel their booking then normal conditions will apply. The balance of your holiday will need to be paid as the booking will be cancelled if payment is not received.

  61. Mark says:

Hi James. Yes it’s very special. My mum passed away in April and she left me a little bit of money. She knew I always wanted to take Chloe to Florida so that’s what I’m doing with the money. This is a very special holiday because of that. That’s why I asked if the competition had ended coz I wanted to suggest calling the plane Lu-Lu after my mum :-) perhaps it could be considered for the 2nd aircraft. I’m a bit gutted that we couldn’t afford premier seats on the new Dreamliner but nevermind I guess. We chose the Dreamliner because this really is a dream holiday come true that my dear mum made possible. Please consider the name for the next aircraft. It would give Chloe something to remember her nan forever and pass down the generations. If there is any chance of a free upgrade that would be great :-) lol

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Mark, I hope you all have a wonderful time. Do keep an eye on our Facebook page, where any competitions we have will be announced.

  62. Peter Burns says:

Hi if the delivery oif your Boeing 787 slips will we not be flying in an alternative aircraft that was due to be decommissioned. How old are you alternative aircraft for the Manchester- Florida routes in July

    • Christina @Thomson says:

Hi Peter, I’m sorry to hear you feel this way. Thomson Airways has not received any communication from Boeing regarding changes to our scheduled delivery dates. At the moment, we’re still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1st May 2013. As we’re still working towards this, we’d not be able to provide you with any specifics with regards to a change in aircraft. If an element of your package holiday were to change, we’d look to let you know as soon as possible to provide you with alternatives. I hope this helps.

      • Peter Burns says:

You misunderstand my comment. I don’t really care what plane I fly in I just want to check that we are not flying in an aircraft that is 20 years + old and due to be decommissioned

        • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Peter, We wouldn’t have this information until nearer the time and if we couldn’t operate the Dreamliner.

        • Rich m says:

The plane I’m flying from Bristol to Florida on is an old 767 that is 24 years old. What does it matter!? These things are built to last a minimum of 40 years. Look at the newer planes – constant problems. I know what I’d rather fly.

  63. Sharon says:

We have bought and paid in full for flights to Orlando in October aboard your Dreamliner. In view of the real safety issues with this aircraft I am extremely concerned and reluctant to potentially endanger my family by travelling on it. Is there an option to change/cancel flights, without penalty, for those customers who no longer have confidence in the aircraft?

    • Christina @Thomson says:

Hi Sharon, I’m sorry to hear you feel this way. Thomson Airways has not received any communication from Boeing regarding changes to our scheduled delivery dates. If you wanted to change your holiday, then as per our Terms and Conditions you’d have to pay an amendment fee to do so. However if for unforeseen reasons we weren’t able to fly on the Dreamliner, we’d look to let you know as soon as possible to provide you with alternatives. However as we’re still working towards the same delivery date of 1st May 2013, we’d not be able to provide you with any specifics with regards to a change in aircraft at this moment in time. I hope this helps.

  64. Bryan holderness says:

Hi, with the news that Boeing are pulling back delivery of new 787′s does this mean IF your new planes are not in service on time then, the flights will be a bit cheaper?
I understand there was a supplement for “the Dreamliner”

    Regards
    Bryan

  65. Dione says:

I am bitterly disappointed with Thomson. My holiday in Egypt in November was absolutely terrible. Booked 5* platinum and what we received was much less than the standards of a 3*. The flight was cramped, dirty and very uncomfortable. I alerted staff in resort and have complained on my return. The matter is still unresolved. I have booked to fly Dreamliner on 18/05/2013. Booked before we went to Egypt. Now that planes are grounded is really wish I had booked with Virgin. Only booked with Thomson to go on the Dreamliner. And we can’t get our deposit back. I won’t EVER book with TUI Group again. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LACKING IN THIS COMPANY

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Dione, I’m sorry to hear of your holiday in November. I’ve found your booking reference from our records, I’ve chased your complaint with our After Travel Team. With regards to the Dreamliner, we can understand your concerns. We are very confident that you’ll experience all the customer benefits of this modern and sophisticated aircraft and arrive safely for a great holiday with your family. If you do wish to transfer to an alternative holiday or alternative flight then they will need to pay the necessary amendment fees to do so.

  66. Dione says:

Jan 19, 2013: Boeing says it is stopping deliveries of the Dreamliner to airlines. So Thomson. If Boeing has made this statement public, surely you would communicate with them as this affects your business. Are you really saying you have had no communication from Boeing. If I heard that news and I was buying something I would be straight onto the supplier. Time to start giving us some honest answers and let your customers know your intentions. I want to know what Thomson intends to do if the Dreamliner is not available. I want to know that I can get my deposit back as you have not fulfilled the contract for the holiday that I have booked.

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Dione, Boeing has reassured us that they are taking action to rectify the issues highlighted to them and we have been working very closely with them to make sure our Dreamliner’s will be delivered on time for their first flights. We would like to reassure you that the safety of our customers travelling on our aircraft is of paramount importance and our number one priority at all times. As we have mentioned in earlier posts, Thomson Airways has an impeccable safety record and we have stringent safety standards in place across our entire fleet, which will of course include the Dreamliner when we take delivery this year. We are confident that you’ll experience all the customer benefits of this modern and sophisticated aircraft and arrive safely for a great holiday with your family. If you wish to transfer to an alternative holiday or alternative flight then they will need to pay the necessary amendment fees to do so.

  67. Mark says:

Hang on a minute. With the greatest of respect we have paid an additional supplement to fly on the Dreamliner. Are you seriously telling us all that if we want to change to a different aircraft we have to pay yet another supplement?? I think this is a very unprofessional example of customer service. I’m sure Thomson will ensure its safe but that may not make your customers feel safe sitting on this aircraft for 9 hours or longer!! I’m assuming if we have to pay an additional supplant we will get a free upgrade?? We are due to fly on the Dreamliner 10 days after your expected delivery date and I have to say I don’t feel that comfortable taking my partner and 10 year old daughter on the plane. I’m gutted as we were all really excited but my partners and daughters safety comfort and well being will always come first in my eyes. Surely you must all see your customers worries and concerns. I think we are all making out views very clear.

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Mark, I do understand your concerns. Thomson Airways hasn’t received any communication from Boeing about changes to our scheduled delivery dates. At this current time we’re still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. Boeing has reassured us they’ll do everything possible to assist the FAA in their investigation, and will be taking every step to assure passengers, and Thomson, of the 787’s safety and get the planes back into service. The safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance to Thomson Airways, and the airline has an impeccable safety record. We would like to assure customers that we’ve the utmost confidence in the safety of this aircraft. For customers who wish to amend or cancel their holiday, normal booking conditions apply.

  68. Brian James says:

I’m still waiting for a reply to my post of five days ago. It was a simple enough question.

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, I’m sorry your previous question has not gone through, I am unable to locate a previous question from yourself. Can you let me know your question and I’ll look into it as soon a possible.

  69. Claire says:

We are booked to fly to Florida on 13th may this yr, and as my partner pointed out when were told by the travel agent that ‘Thomson have an excellent safety record blah blah blah’ that as a matter of fact thomson have NO safety record that includes flying the dreamliner that’s full of problems, the lady we spoke to in travel agent told us thomson have took delivery of the plane but not been test flown etc, I then said well if I’ve already got it then its likely to b a faulty plane as no repairs have been made and she agreed!!, thomson need to start telling their customers who have all paid out money and saved for holidays what their plans are over all this with the dreamliner rather than keep going on about a safety record they have with their older planes and not the new dreamliner

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Claire, Boeing has reassured us they will do everything possible to assist the FAA in their investigation, and will be taking every step to assure passengers, and Thomson, of the 787’s safety and get the planes back into service. We’ve not received any communication from Boeing regarding changes to our scheduled delivery dates and has not affected our test dates or our first commercial flight date. The safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance to Thomson Airways, and the airline has an impeccable safety record. I can assure you that we have the utmost confidence in the safety of this aircraft however if there was any issue raised, we would replace the aircraft just like the Airline would do for any of our aircraft.

  70. Brian James says:

I have booked a three week holiday in Mexico leaving May 10th flying premium class on the 787. The reason we decided to return to Mexico was solely because thomson had aquired the 787. I want to know if Thomson will guarantee that the Dreamliner will be in service on May 1st. It’s a simple question.

    • Leanne @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, I can’t guarantee, but we have no reason to believe that it won’t.

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, I can’t add anything further to what you’ve already been advised previously.

  71. clive says:

Hi well seems Thomson are not using the dreamliner in June as i have missed 2 calls from TUI group and i have checked my booking and the flights to orlando show as aircraft TOM070 AND TOM071 return which is old fleet and not the dreamliner, i only used Thomson for this plane and could of booked my holiday for £1200 cheaper with an alternative travel company, i will await the call from whoever it was but the flight information has changed.

    • clive says:

i may be wrong as ive heard the TOM070 used to be old number but is now the Florida code for dreamliner, so fingers crossed

      • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Clive, I’ve checked your flight and this is scheduled to be on the Dreamliner. It sounds like out Outbound Team may have tried to contact you. This is nothing to worry about, they’re just calling to go through a few things on your booking.

  72. Brian James says:

I’ve just read an article from Reuters that said, “US regulators have remarked that the slow progress of investigations into battery problems on the 787 Dreamliner suggest that the new plane could be grounded for months”. My wife and I will be taking our holiday agreement to our soliciter to see what our options are in the event we have to cancel our holiday.

    • Christina @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, I’m sorry to hear you feel this way. I can appreciate your concerns regarding the Dreamliner. However, we’re working closely with Boeing and we’ve not been advised at the current time that there’ll be any delay with the delivery of our 787s. If for unforeseen reasons we were to change an element of your package holiday, our Programme Team would look to contact you as soon as possible with suitable options. I hope this helps.

  73. mr lawrence says:

i imagine that they will just charter one of there other fleet if this is the case with 787 Dreamliner been grounded for months. i am due to fly in june i would love to go on it but if this is the case i am glad just to go away would this be the case thomson ? many thanks mr lawrence

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Mr. Lawrence, Thanks for your message. Here at Thomson we have a change policy for all of our aircraft’s, which includes the new 787 Dreamliner. It details that if for some reason we need to make a change through-out the season with our aircraft fleet, then we may do so at any time. We will then notify affected customers as soon as possible with their new aircraft information. If there are any seating premiums that have been paid then a refund for the difference will be issued. All of this information can be found in ‘Our Agreement’ section 4 online or in our brochures. I hope this helps answer your query and that you go to have a wonderful holiday in June.

  74. Brian James says:

I don’t think you understand Christina, the only reason we decided to return to Mexico was solely because we would be traveling on the Dreamliner and not a worn out 767. The flight IS the major element for us because of the duration (11 hours) of the flight. The last time we flew to Mexico it was with First Choice in 2011, it was the most uncomfortable flight that I have ever experienced.

    • Rich m says:

Worn out? They’re not even half way through their life. Have respect for others who may be flying on these perfectly good planes. I know I’d rather fly on a ‘worn out’ 767 with a proven safety record than A 787.

  75. Steve Pryor says:

We`ve booked to go to Mexico from Gatwick this Christmas/New Year. The only reason we booked with Thomson and not Virgin was to experience the Premium Upgrade on the Dreamliner.I hope the 787 issues are sorted quickly.

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Steve, Thomson Airways has not received any communication from Boeing regarding changes to our scheduled delivery dates. At this current time we are still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. I hope this helps.

  76. Chris says:

If I were to change my holiday to another destination when is the deadline for this? I’m flying to Mexico on the Dreamliner but I’m only going to experience te dreamliner as I’ve been before! If the Dreamliners are delayed and its a 767 if rather go Tina different destination! My final balance is due mid feb thanks

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Chris, Thanks for your message regarding your query. If you’d like to transfer your holiday to another destination, you may do so. However normal booking conditions will apply to this. If you booked your holiday in your local store then you’ll need to pop back to them or if this booking was made online then you may contact us on 0844 871 0875. I hope this helps.

      • Chris says:

But when is the deadline for this? How many days before departure can I change the destination?

        • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Chris, If you want to change your holiday destination then you’d need to do this at least 70 days before you’re due to travel. There’s a £50 amendment charge per person to do this.

  77. Emma Tolley says:

We are also booked to fly on the dreamliner on 3/05 travelling from manchester to Sanford. I cannot see why someone has not already released a proper statement from Thomsons, surely you should keep your customer informed? Also you are correct in stating that your terms and conditions state that you can swap aircraft. This totally misses the point though. I would not of booked this holiday if it wasnt for the dreamliner. I would of flown with Virgin Atlantic. I was assured at the time, that the flight would definately be on the dreamliner.. So yes you may get us to our destination, but this isnt the holiday we booed…

    • James @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, Thanks for your message. Unfortunately at this time the information given to Thomson’s is what has already been communicated to us and we’ve forwarded this to our customers within our social network. Although this may sound limited we’re awaiting further communication from Boeing to update us and also then give further accurate information so we can update our customers.

At this time we’re still working towards our first schedule delivery date and flying our first 787 Dreamliner from 1st May this year.

    • Juan Escobar says:

Emma, I am sure that as soon as Boeing informs Thomson, they will inform customers. It could go either way, a workable sulution that won’t affect plans for delivery or a significant delay. Lets give it a couple of weeks and things should be clearer.
Btw, it’s “would have” not “would of”

  78. Mr Lawrence says:

Hi Thomson do you think it would be a good will gesture that all those passengers who booked their flights before the dreamliner was grounded Could travel on Premium or first class on another plane and the cost of which be forwarded to boeing as according to the media the development of the 787 was pushed forward to early to keep up with the airbus a380 ?

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Mr Lawrence, This isn’t something we’d be able to offer. You can find more details in our A-Z guide on our website or in the back of the brochure.

  79. Ewan says:

We are booked to fly on the Dreamliner 14th may to Sanford, having read all the posts and replies I have a question. Staff in your branches are being told you have already taken delivery of your first Dreamliner and it is on test flights for 3 months prior to use on long haul flights however you are saying on here you haven’t got any dreamliners yet, what is the truth?

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Ewan, I’m sorry that you’ve being given conflicting information. We’ve not received our first Dreamliner, it’s currently scheduled to be delivered at the end of next month.

  80. Nicky@ says:

Boeing are saying all delivery of dreamliner 787 have been stopped, till the fault as been located.
When will thomson paying customers find out from thomson what is plan b, if dreamliner is not delivered on time.

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Nicky, If we’re unable to operate the Dreamliners then we’ll let everyone affected know as soon as we can.

  81. Stewart says:

Is it possible for you to explain Nicky’s other question and now mine

    1. if you fail to take delivery in time what is your plan b?

    2. Will those that have booked especially to fly on this supposedly fantastic plane will a refund be sort if grounded and I believe that to fly on the Dreamliner the prices where slightly higher?

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Stewart, At this current time we are still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. If this were to change we would look to let our customers know as soon as possible.

  82. andrew gallacher says:

Hi Thomsons…..I have several questions in relation to the Dreamliner flights.
I am booked to travel from Glasgow to Florida on 18th August and I am concerned we wont fly on the new plane. I have read all the previous posts and understand about safety etc, If the plane has to be changed when will the team at Thomsons let us know? What timescales do they work to is it the day before or at checkin desk or do they give you a few weeks notice? Since this is a well documented case it should be easy to inform us what is going on!!! We booked this holiday and a major feature was the 787 flight. Will be simply transfer from the 787 to the 767? is the capacity the same on both planes? Also I would be looking for further compensation as One of the main attractions of this booking was the plane. It is a bit like paying for a limo and getting a nissan micra. The same journey but not in the same style!!!!! Not good enough Thomsons…..Your customers deserve better!!!!

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Andrew, We are currently still working towards our first scheduled flight on 1st May 2013. If this were to change, we would look to let our customers know as soon as possible. All of our customers holidays will still continue and will travel on an alternative aircraft.

      • andrew gallacher says:

Hi Leanne, Thanks for the SCRIPTED reply. Can I assume that Thomsons want everyone to be kept in the dark giving no information to anyone. The wall of silence is deafening. All we want is for Thomsons to come clean. Boeing cant possibly commit to when your plane will be delivered. A few points worth considering! Point 1 – Thomsons have mentioned a 3 month proving period so for a flight leaving on May 1st the proving period must have started on Feb 1st. This cant have happened as the first Thomson plane is currently sitting in Boeings land as it cant fly! Point 2 – Why cant Thomsons define plan B and acknowledge that in the event we will fly on the same day from the same airport etc. and how many days before the holiday we would be contacted to alert us of any change? Point 3 – It would be nice if the questions were answered in the first reply instead of having to ask again. I know its not your fault and you are working from a script but We deserve answers and We are not getting what we deserve. Thomsons will lose a lot of custom through the way this has been handled. The internet forums are full of unhappy Thomson customers needlessly!
Could you please answer the questions remaining unanswered from the first email and answer these points too. I await an unscripted answer!

        • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Andrew, I can’t advise any further information than what Lauren’s already said.

  83. Brian James says:

Does Thomson have a plan b?

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, At the moment we’re still currently working towards our first commercial flight on the 1st of May 2013. If this were to change we’d look to let our customers know as soon as possible and their holidays would still continue, travelling on an alternative aircraft.

  84. Emma Tolley says:

We spoke to your customer service team today who stated that head office have confirmed that the dreamliner will definitely be delivered . . How can they possibly say this ?? I told the person to put notes on my account to state that this is the case !! She also let us book out seats for the outbound flight – apparently configuration 3-3-3, and definitely on the dreamliner ?? I will be going into your shop to discuss this ! It can’t be correct , so why are your staff lying to your customers ?? Feel free to contact me for more details … This is ridiculous customer service , and on a blog for the whole of the world to see..

    • Leanne @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, Can you please send us your booking reference so we can look into this for you.

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, Thanks for providing your information, I’ve deleted your comment for data protection. I’ve passed this feedback on to the relevant team. Thomson Airways is still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. We understand Boeing is doing everything it can to assist the FAA in its investigation and we have every faith in Boeing and its ability to fix these issues as soon as possible.

      • Emma Tolley says:

Please don’t dodge my question . Why has your customer service representative told me my flight is on the dreamliner when it can’t possibly be? All the people that have commented on this blog have shown there disappointment, we all know the chances of flying on the dreamliner are slim. Many of us only booked this holiday because of the dreamliner, and regardless of what your terms and conditions say we’re not getting the holiday we hoped for… This customer service is not good enough.. Don’t we deserve an answer, I am sure you would want an answer if it was your holidays.. It’s not though is it.

        • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, I’m sorry you were advised this and I’ll pass this feedback on. Whilst you shouldn’t have been guaranteed that your flight is on the Dreamliner we’re still working towards operating our first long haul flight on the 1st May.

          • Emma Tolley says:

Hi Dan , whilst I should not of been promised this, I was, so what happens now if this isn’t fulfilled?

Isn’t it about time thomson sort some proper clarification from
Boeing? Or is it a case of letting the end of February come, and then worry when it isn’t delivered? Looking at proffesional opinions online it seems this may take quite a while. I do appreciate your responses, in that your are only doing what your told, but this needs to be flagged and resolved, so many unhappy people at the moment.. Holidays are supposed to be happy times, and there is no denying this uncertainty is a bad start..

          • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, I’m unable to advise anything further to what I’ve already said. Once again, I’m sorry that you were advised this on the phone and we’ve passed this on.

  85. Stewart says:

That’s one way in avoiding the question or questions, The answer is the same, we realise you are looking into it, if you weren’t there would be concern. We also realise we are just paying customers who really in the grand scheme of things don’t really have a right to have a decent answer other than a scripted one by the looks of it. If Thomson believed in that “it’s customers where valued” we wouldn’t be spoon fed a bog standard answer :( . Suppose fingers crossed that the problem goes away and I guess we will have to also wait for you to let us know how it will be dealt with if this isn’t resolved. Thanks for your time Thomson (not). Wonder if Thomas Cook is any better

  86. David says:

I sent an email this morning and you have deleted it. You have my email address, I am happy to correspond privately, but dont just delete an email that you dont like.

  87. Steve Pryor says:

Boeing have made a request in the past 12hours to the FAA to conduct some test flights. This could be an indication that they are near to resolving the issues.

  88. S. Daniels says:

    Hi all,

I am really hoping to fly on the Dreamliner and I’m blocking out all the negative press. We fly on the 5th May from Manchester to Mexico. It is our honeymoon so I am really hoping that the Dreamliner will be ready to rock and roll.

However, my question isn’t about whether I go on one or not – as you say, you’re still on track for delivery at this stage – but booking my seats.

I tried to log in yesterday to select them and wasy given an error message to call your customer services team. I did, and was promptly answered by a nice gentleman called Steven. He said I couldn’t reserve my seats until 90 days before the INBOUND flights. Surely that can’t be right. So if someone is going on the same OUTBOUND flight but only staying for 7 nights instead of 14, they get preferential treatment on the seat booking? Also, someone has commented on this blog saying they’ve selected their outbound seats on the Dreamliner. Why can’t I? :(

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi S Daniels, You’re able to book your seats 90 days before your return flight as the seat plans are not confirmed until then. You can always give our Thomson Airways Team a call to discuss your outbound flight. Their number is 0844 871 1603.

      • S. Daniels says:

        Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I’ve given them a call and selected our outbound seats. Didn’t realise there was a gap between the first and second seat in from the window, but that might be a blessing in disguise – preparation for married life!

Thanks again and best wishes in getting this Dreamliner sorted!

  89. Gillian says:

    Hi S. Daniels

What do you mean by a gap? Just thinking about our seats in June, too early for us to book seats but looking for as much info as poss., thanks

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Gillian, Our Premium seats will have the following letters across the row, AC-DEF-GJ. Due to the seating plan system it does look like there’s a gap between seats A and C and G and J but this won’t be the case, it’s just a system restriction. To clarify the Premium Club configuration is 2-3-2 and our Economy Club is 3-3-3.

  90. Jaffar says:

    Hi

In reply to S.Daniels seating arrangements. have you released the seating plan. i am aware of the 3-3-3 is this in premium? i am keen to find out as if you are due to take delivery this month, I am guessing you know what you have ordered for your £millions?

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Jaffar, Our Premium Club cabin will be in a 2-3-2 configuration, and our Economy Club cabin will have a 3-3-3 configuration.

  91. Nichola says:

I am due to fly on my honeymoon in June to Mexico. We are flying premium, if we are not flying on the Dreamliner I take it that an alternative will be put in place. What would the premium be like on the alternative?

I am not a great lover of flying and it’s making me a bit scared of flying now.

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Nichola, At the moment we’re still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. We’ll of course strive to give customers as much notice as possible, should they not be flying on the 787.

      • Nichola says:

        Hi dan,

If it was an alternative what would the benefit to those flying on a different aircraft.

Is there not less premium seats compared to the Dreamliner? If so how would this therefore be decided as it is a honeymoon and I refuse to fly economy with it being a special occasion

        • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Nichola, We want to reassure our customers that we are still working towards operating our flights on 1 May. However, if for any reason a customer holiday operates on another aircraft, we would of course be in touch to discuss options regarding customer’s premium seating.

  92. Emma Tolley says:

    Hi Guys Me again,

I have just spoken to a lovely lady at Thomson, Kavita Singh at your OTM department, Coventry. She called me and asked if I wanted any more assistance with my booking ( I am assuming this is due to the feedback that was sent ?). Anyway, I asked them about the dreamliner grounding, and that I only booked the holiday due to that plane. Kavita was very happy, and assured me that your head office had recieved confirmation, boeing have said they will definately deliver your dreamliner on time. Once again confirming that my flight will 100% definately be on the dreamliner ?? Who is this OTM department ? Do they have information that you don’t? They rang me, I wasnt even expecting a call.. Dare I ask whats going on?

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Emma, I’m sorry you’ve been given this information again by another member of staff. Our Outbound Telemarketing Team will have just called to go through your booking and enquired if you’d like any extras. We’ve addressed this with the team. The information we’ve advised yesterday is the correct information.

  93. Greg says:

We too saw the Dreamliner marketing which swayed us to book this holiday to Florida in May. We will be very annoyed if we don’t experience the Dreamliner or alternatively receive the option of a full refund without any loss of deposits etc. We will feel completely missold this holiday otherwise!!

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Greg, We want to reassure you that we are still working towards operating our first Dreamliner flight on 1 May 2013. Should we not receive our Dreamliners in time, your holiday will be unaffected and you’ll travel on an alternative aircraft. You’ll also be refunded the premium for the 787 you’ve paid.

  94. Gillian says:

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

  95. andrew gallacher says:

If the dreamliner is delayed or should I say when Thomson finally admit it is delayed how can all the passengers be transferred to one flight? As far as I know the seating on a 767 is 258 seats and the 787 Dreamliner is 291. Thats 33 people who have no seats. Can you please confirm if these numbers are correct and if so what will happen to the 33 people who cant fir into the 767. PLEASE dont reply with the scripted message of We want to reassure you that we are still working towards operating our first Dreamliner flight on 1 May 2013. Should we not receive our Dreamliners in time, your holiday will be unaffected and you’ll travel on an alternative aircraft. You’ll also be refunded the premium for the 787 you’ve paid.

    • Leanne @Thomson says:

Hi Andrew, If for any reason we have to change planes all customers will be talked through suitable options. We have no further information at this time.

      • maggie says:

people seem to be worried as the 767 does not have the same amount of seats as the dreamliner but surely thompsoms would stop taking any more booking to ensure that customers that booked early will get to their holiday resort.I think if you choose a hoilday it should be hounoured and that include your choice of aircraft if you hired a rolls royce for you wedding and a ford escort arrived you would not tolerate it so why dont people get the chance to changed their date to get the service they want.. you choose your holiday and should not be given an lesser service than the one you want maybe thompson should not have hyped it up with television advertiseing befoe the delievry of the dreamliner

        • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Maggie, Boeing has not confirmed the Thomson Airways delivery schedule and we are still waiting for a confirmed delivery date from them. We have every faith in Boeing and its ability to fix these issues as soon as possible. We will of course strive to give customers as much notice as possible, should they not be flying on the 787. We understand the differences in the premium experience on the Dreamliner and want to reassure our customers that we are still working towards operating our flights on 1st May. If for any reason a customer holiday operates on another aircraft, we would of course be in touch to discuss options regarding customer’s premium seating.

  96. Chris says:

Best thing i could have done is get rid of my holiday to Mexico on the Dreamliner! Got fed up with Thomson not telling us customers whats happening or giving us options! I decided to book a holiday to Orlando with Virgin and use the deposit i paid Thomson to go somewhere in Europe at the end of the year. I have spend thousands with Thomson over the years but never again! I’m through with them, Virgin Atlantic all the way!

  97. Donna says:

I too got fed up of asking the same questions and not getting an answer, mainly whether our Premium seating could be guaranteed if you didn’t get the dreamliner in time for our flight in July. My husband is 6ft 4in and only agreed to travel to Florida if we got the extra legroom seats. Anyway I too have paid £50 per person to change my holiday, we are now flying from Newcastle on a 767, so I know that I will definately get the premium seats we have now paid for. I have been very dissatisfied with Thomson’s customer service and eventually after reading weeks of the same stock answers decided to take matters into my own hands. I don’t think we should have to pay for the privilege to change holidays when the fault isn’t ours but I wasn’t prepared to take the risk of not getting the type of seat we required. If the dreamliners are not delivered and customers only find out a few weeks before they fly there will be little choice of flights left to alter to and presumably none with Premium seating available! I will think very carefully before booking a holiday with Thomson’s again.

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Donna, I’m sorry to hear you feel this way. At this current time we are still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. We will of course strive to give customers as much notice as possible, should they not be flying on the 787. We would like to reassure customers that their holiday will still continue and they will travel on an alternative aircraft.

      • clive says:

So what about the latest statement about the delays of the delivery confirmed that boeing has released statements to companies expecting their aircraft, so where is our communication then? and regarding your comments on people traveling on alternative aircraft, what about all of us who only used thomson because of the new plane and could of gone with a company like monarch or virgin for around £1000 cheaper? yet if we cancel we lose our deposit. what a joke

        • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Clive, Boeing hasn’t confirmed the Thomson Airways delivery schedule and we’re still waiting for a confirmed delivery date from them. We understand fully how very disappointing this would be for many customers should our flights not go ahead, but unfortunately these circumstances are out of our control. As soon as Boeing confirm our delivery schedule, should there be any customers impacted, we’ll immediately contact those customers to confirm all details.

      • Chris says:

It’s been all over the news today that Airlines are being warned that they there is a risk that there will be delays with deliveries! Yet Thomson are still not giving people their options! That’s just wrong! Will never fly with Thomson again!

        • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Chris, Boeing has not confirmed a new delivery schedule and we’re still waiting for a confirmed Thomson Airways delivery date from them. Our priority is to ensure our customers go on their holidays and we’re, therefore, putting contingency plans in place should our delivery be delayed beyond the end of March. As soon as Boeing advise us of our new delivery schedule we will be able to confirm more details with our customers.

          • Chris says:

To which I paid a lot more money to fly on the Dreamliner than the 767! Would I recieved this money back?? No! That’s why I am changing the holiday,

          • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Chris, Should customers who are booked to fly on the plane be unable to do so, the premium paid would be refunded to you.

      • Gary says:

        Hi Lauren,

for some of us its not just a case of still getting to the destination on any old plane, we would have travelled from Birmingham on the same day for £86 cheaper if we wasnt offered the Dreamliner option at Manchester, and to now change to fly from Birmingham we have been offered a £100 admin charge for this, surely this is not fair?

i can understand Thomsons situation, but its clear the plane will not be ready by May 4th when i travel, all i want to do is change from Manchester to Birmingham without having to pay £100.

        Gary

        • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Gary, Boeing hasn’t confirmed the new delivery schedule yet and we’re still waiting for a confirmed Thomson Airways delivery date from them. As soon as Boeing advise us of our new delivery schedule we’ll be able to confirm which flights, if any, may be affected and contact those customers involved.

  98. Andrew Gallacher says:

    *Latest update from Sky News*

Boeing has alerted airline officials that its planned Dreamliner delivery schedule is at risk because of ongoing inquiries into its airworthiness.

It went on to say – Boeing warned the Nordic carrier deliveries were uncertain because of the investigation by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Can Thomsons confirm if Boeing have updated Thomsons and if there are any changes to the scripted answers being given?

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Andrew, Boeing hasn’t confirmed the Thomson Airways delivery schedule and we’re still waiting for a confirmed delivery date from them. As soon as Boeing advise us of our new delivery schedule we’ll be able to confirm more with you.

  99. lm89 says:

If the 787 is not delivered on time it will be replaced with a 767 with premium seating Donna. You can in no way blame Thomson for what is happening. You have just wasted your money by changing your holiday. July is, a long way off yet im booked on the dreamliner in May so am more likely to miss out on the dreamliner than you.

  100. Bob Taylor says:

About time thomson updated the main page to this site to reflect the issue that has been going on for almost a month. Today Boeing confirmed further delivery delays. As usual Thomson is late with the news and update. No wonder customers get fed up of charter airlines when they find information elsewhere… Last time I book thomson…

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Bob, We’re aware that our scheduled delivery from Boeing has moved out of February. Boeing hasn’t confirmed the new delivery schedule and we’re still waiting for a confirmed Thomson Airways delivery date from them. As soon as Boeing advise us of our new delivery schedule we’ll be able to confirm more details.

  101. Stephanie says:

Now boeing have told you deliveries are going to be delayed, can you please tell your customers what plan b is?

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Stephanie, We want to make you aware that Thomson Airways hasn’t yet been given a new delivery date for its first 787 Dreamliner by Boeing. Our priority is to ensure our customers go on their holidays and we’re, therefore, putting contingency plans in place including using alternative aircraft for our long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March. As soon as Boeing confirm our delivery schedule, should there be any customers impacted, we’ll immediately contact those customers to confirm all details.

      • Stephanie says:

Thank you for your reply, my concerns are that there will not be enough seats on a replacement flight as I believe your existing long haul flights have fewer seats than the dream liner? If this is the case, what will happen to the extra passengers? Changing our departure date is not an option for us as we have already booked our holidays at work!

        • Rebecca @Thomson says:

          He Stephanie,

We’re currently in the process of putting in place contingency plans. Where possible we will look to re-allocate customers onto a Thomson Airways 767. We operate a number of 767′s and the size of our premium cabin varies. Once we have more information from Boeing regarding delivery dates we’ll be able to look at which 767’s we have available to use in our fleet.

As soon as Boeing confirm our delivery schedule, should there be any customers impacted, we will immediately contact those customers to confirm all details.

  102. Ewan says:

Last year Thomson boss Chris Browne told The Guardian the 787 addressed the airlines “biggest source of complaints” comfort, legroom and entertainment on long-haul holidays. “So we had to do something. It was a scary decision, but man, are we glad,” she said. Thomson was the third customer to commit to the 787, she said and Thomson “got a fantastic deal from Boeing. I wouldn’t like to buy it today – and I love shopping.”

    Great confidence from your MD

I like many others will be writing for compensation if our holiday is ruined by outdated replacement planes, when are thomsons going to let us paying customers know plan b!

    • Adam @Thomson says:

Hi Ewan, We understand fully how very disappointing this will be for many customers should our flights not go ahead, but unfortunately these circumstances are out of our control. Boeing hasn’t confirmed the new delivery schedule yet and we’re still waiting for a confirmed Thomson Airways delivery date from them. We want to reassure you that your holiday will go ahead and you’ll be switched to an alternative aircraft, which we would notify you of, should this be necessary. For these reasons normal booking conditions will apply.

    • Rich m says:

I’m going on an ‘outdated’ plane but at least it’s reliability has been proven over the years. Stop being a snob and realise IT IS NOT THOMSONS FAULT!!!

      • Ewan says:

Firstly Rich i don’t believe there is any reason for you to call me a snob, i like many others booked the holiday flying with thomson on the basis of their brand new planes which made the difference over booking with Virgin, we have paid a lot of money for our holiday so i believe we have the right to ask what contingency plans are in place, i aren’t fortunate enough to fly as regular as you seem to do so i have no idea on the interior standard of Thomson 767 i can only go off friends experiences.

  103. Rich m says:

Why does everyone act like the 787 fault is thomsons? It’s not! They don’t make the aircraft – Boeing do. And Boeing wouldn’t say this far ahead if they can deliver by April/may because it could be a very simple fix that takes a few hours. People need to stop moaning at Thomson, your safety is paramount to them. If they don’t put you in a 787 it’s because it is not safe! They are doing you a favour! I can’t understand people who complain to the wrong people. Don’t shoot the messenger!

    • mary says:

hi rich, people pay good money and all they want is the truth thompson need to face up to some responsalbilty and why do the still advertise a aircraft they do not have and also state there is still premium seating on the dreamliner in may they should be stopping bookings at the moment until a futher update is given and customers can make an informed choice people are not moaning they have rights and freedom of speech some people have spent alot of money to take their children on a dream holiday

      • Rich m says:

Yes – granted, but surely you’d prefer to take your children on a dream holiday knowing the plane you’re on is safe and has no concerns like the 787 does!? There really is little difference between the planes. It’s more a marketing thing to get people booking Thomson. A plane is a plane, regardless of what they call it, it will look sound and feel the same as any other plane. And I’ve been on one!

    • Gary Bickerstaffe says:

Rich people are not blaming Thomson for the plane. We are annoyed at the lack of choice we now have.

I could have flown from Birmingham but paid extra for the Dreamliner and now have to travel to Mancheser to probably travel on the same plane I could have traveled on in Birmingham.

So it’s costing me almost £150 more to travel 1.5 hours to Manchester to fly on a 767, the same as Birmingham !!!!!!!!!!!

      • Stefan @Thomson says:

Hi Gary, Thank your for your comment. Thomson Airways is still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1 May 2013. We have every faith in Boeing and its ability to fix these issues as soon as possible and we understand Boeing is doing everything it can to assist the FAA in its investigation. We’ll notify our customers if any changes to the aircraft happens immediately. Hope you have a wonderful holiday

  104. Brian James says:

Sky News this morning. Boeing say that deliveries to their customers will more than likely be delayed, or even postponed due to problems with the 787.
I suppose this means that my wife and I will be flying in one of Thomsons clapped out 767′s.
    with the rock hard seats.

    • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, We’ve been informed by Boeing that our scheduled delivery has moved out of February. Our priority is to ensure our customers go on their holidays and we are, therefore, putting contingency plans in place including using alternative aircraft for our long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March.

  105. Ian says:

We have paid for a flight only on the 21/6/13 to Sanford from Manchester in premium seating. If the 787 is still not flying will we still be guaranteed premium seating and refunded the premium paid for flying on the 787

    • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Ian, Should you not be travelling on a 787 Dreamliner, where possible, we’ll re-allocate you to a Thomson Airways 767 aircraft with a premium cabin. This means you’ll be offered the same service you would have received on the 787 aircraft. If you’re unable to fly on the 787, the premium would be refunded.

  106. Brian James says:

If the 787 is not operational in May and are replaced with 767′s will Thomson do something about the uncomfortable seating on these aircraft. As you know one of the main reasons people booked to travel on the 787 was the reputed comfort of these planes. Customers like my wife and I, and I’m sure a lot of posters on this blog would never have flown long haul with Thomson again but for the the promise of traveling on the 787, I was going to book my flight to Mexico with Virgin. Now your customers flying to Mexico can look forward to sitting for 20 hours on old rock hard seats, I’m dreading it.

    • Rebecca @Thomson says:

      Hi Brian,

We’ve not yet been given a new delivery date for our first Dreamliner by Boeing. Our priority is to ensure our customers go on their holidays and we are, therefore, putting contingency plans in place including using alternative aircraft for our long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March. As soon as we have more information, we’ll let our customers know.

    • Rich m says:

Lol having flown briefly on an ANA 787 – the seats are no different in comfort as Thomson refurbish their 767 interiors.

      • Daniel says:

Yes Rich we know you have!! And no one cares that you have. Bored of reading your comments now! They are starting to sound like Thomsons scripted ones!

        • Rich m says:

And I think everyone is bored of you going on and on when everything has been said time and time again, is on the news, in the papers, everywhere – yet people like you still want to moan and play dumb. Get a grip.

          • Daniel says:

Really? That’s funny how I’ve only commented twice and that was to you! People don’t want to hear your rubbish anymore!

          • Glenis says:

No Rich M it’s just you were bored of! Daniel is spot on it everything he has said to you, Take it like a man! The only person doing all the moaning is yourself.

          • David says:

After reading many of the comments on here i think Rich M has too much time on his hands, Get out a little my friend!!

          • Richard says:

David. That’s rich comming from u. Why can you all not take the answer for what it is. They don’t know what they are doing yet once they do they will tell people. Asking the same question over again is not going to get u a different answer.

          • David says:

What question m i asking Richard? I’m not even going on holiday with Thomson as i only travel with BA!! So i’m sorry my friend you should try getting your facts straight before you start typing away!!

          • Glenis says:

Rich /Richard, Same person by any chance?

          • Richard says:

Lol. So ur not even going on holiday and are on this blog. Somone needs to get a life my friend. I only read it to keep up to date on what the situation is. And no mate. Not the same person.

          • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Everyone, Please be aware that we moderate comments before they’re posted on the blog. We don’t deem these comments as being related to this post or constructive, and any further comments will not be approved. We’d also ask that all comments are respectful to other users.

  107. Ewan says:

Having not travelled long haul with thomsons before I am interested to know the specification especially the entertainment levels on your 767′s since it is becoming increasingly likely that we will not be flying as booked on the 787. I had a friend who flew with you last year on a 767 and they said it was shocking damage to seats poor entertainment levels, overall very dated

    • Stefan @Thomson says:

Hi Ewan, Thank you for your question. We remain confident that the 787 will be flying on schedule. If a plane change were to happen we’d notify all of our customers immediately. In regards to the 767 we have a range of entertainment for all ages ranging from TV, films, music and games. Let me reassure you that we look after all of our planes and we wouldn’t allow any damage of our planes go unnoticed. I hope this helps and that you enjoy your first long haul experience with Thomson.

  108. sally says:

Could I change my holiday.I’ve booked to go to mexico in may on dream liner,as this is looking unlikely with problem.I have paid £500. deposit.how much would it cost to change and what could I change it to

    • Stefan @Thomson says:

Hi Sally, Sorry to hear you feel like this. If you’d like to make any changes to your holiday then you can call our team on 0844 871 0878. Normal booking fees apply, which will be discussed when making the change to your holiday. Thank you and have a nice day.

  109. Brian James says:

But Stefan the state of the seats on the 767′s are well known. In short, they are worn out. That’s why there are many complaints about the lack of comfort aboard Thomson 767′s.

    • Rich m says:

This is simply not true! I’ve flown on it many times and its fine. You won’t notice any difference between that seat and a 787 seat.

      • maggie says:

I HAVE ALSO FLOWN MANY TIMES ON THE 767 WITH THOMPSON AIRLINES WHEN WERE THESE AIRCRAFT RE -FURBISHES? I DID NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IT WAS TH MOST UNCOMFORTABLE LONG HAUL FLIGHT I HAVE BEEN ON AND THEY MAY OFFER AN ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME TO SUIT ALL AGES AND I DID NOTICE THAT MY TELEVISION WAS NOT WORKING. ON ANOTHER BLOG ANOTHER CUSTOMER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON A FLIGHT TO A DIFFERNT HOLIDAY. PLEAS COULD YOU TELL ME WHEN THESE AIRCRAFT WERE RE FURBISHED I WOULD LIKE A PROPER ANSWER SO I WILL KNOW THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AND MAYBE RICH M WILL NOTICE THIS TIME

        • Daniel says:

I think Rich M may need a visit to specsavers!

        • maggie says:

hi rich m I was reading other blogs and funny enough there is another rich m but this fellow was asking about aircrafts, as this rich is frightened of flying that other person is not you is it? no it cannot be an it

          • Rich m says:

Not me no – just maybe, as hard to believe as it is, they’re may actually be another Rich M! Scary to think!
And in response to the above. Just youtube Thomson 767 refurbishment.

        • Glenis says:

After searching on you tube as Rich M mentions all i find is a new Thomson livery!!! Does not matter what the outside looks like Rich M it’s the inside that counts!

          • Rich m says:

There is a video somewhere. I went on a 767 two years a go with thomson and it had 8 seats across in economy. Last year it had 7, and the video I found explained this, how theyve refurb’d the interiors replacing all the seats to give more space etc.

  110. Dream Hauler says:

I’ve decided this name because the new addition to thomson is a dreamliner that will be flying long haul flights

  111. Brian James says:

The 767′s have not been refurbished because Thomson were going to replace them with the 787. Willie Walsh the CEO of IAG (the international airlines group) said yesterday that he was confident that Boeing would solve the problems affecting the 787 but that he did not expect it to enter service for. and I quote “a few months” Why then are Thomson still selling dreamliner flights knowing that they may have to cancel them? I should point out that Willie Walsh is the chairman of British Airways who have orders pending for the 787, he is also a pilot so he knows what he’s talking about.

    • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, We’re currently in the process of refreshing the Livery across our fleet. We’ve every faith in Boeing and its ability to fix these issues as soon as possible.

  112. Andrew Gallacher says:

Interesting information on holiday contracts – feel free to respond Thomsons……The information that’s written in a brochure helps you choose your holiday. Brochure information is also a part of your holiday contract. The only time brochure information won’t be part of your contract is if you agreed changes when you booked the holiday. So if your holiday doesn’t match the description in the brochure you can argue that the terms of your contract have been broken. This is called breach of contract.

Thomsons had brochures and posters up everywhere telling us how wonderful this plane is…. If you substitute the 787 then it needs to be a comparable aircraft….good luck in finding one of those!! Afterall the dreamliner is cutting edge, aids in avoiding jetlag etc…..
I think you’ll find the 767 doesnt compare other than they are both planes.

    • Lauren @Thomson says:

Hi Andrew, If customers are on an alternative aircraft, we’ll do everything possible to ensure that our passengers get to Florida and Cancun as comfortably as possible and still receive the premium 787 service from our crew on board.

  113. Michelle C says:

LAUREN in response to your reply above going on the old planes will be not compare to your advert of the Dreamliner “bigger seats, mood lighting, more headroom, more oxygen, quieter flight, State-of-the-art Seatback TV’s”!!! I do hope Boeing get their act into gear otherwise you will have to get yours into gear.

  114. Rich m says:

IF the 787′s aren’t delivered – will you take the 767 from Bristol and if so what we will have!? That’s the only issue I have as I heard they’d take the planes from here to use at gatwick.

    • Leanne @Thomson says:

Hi Rich, We haven’t got anymore information on the aircrafts being used if we did have to make a change at the moment. We’ll updated customers as soon as we have more information.

  115. Brian James says:

As Glenis commented, refreshing the outside of the plane does nothing to increase the comfort level of the passengers sitting inside the plane. So I take it that Thomson will do nothing about the rock hard seating on the 767′s. My wife & I have paid over £600 to fly premium class on the Dreamliner, for that kind of money I expect to be able to sit in a comfortable seat.

    • maggie says:

I was thinking the same thing when I watched utube who cares what the exterior looks like it is the interior that matters How many passengers will be looking out at the wings thinking what a good paint job Do thompsons really know what their customers want I don’t think so To-day on boeing website the aircraft that have been grounded ban will not be lifted before may so thompson should be now telling customers like myself that have book for May the dream is over

      • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Maggie, We want to make you aware that Thomson Airways has not yet been given a new delivery date for its first 787 Dreamliner by Boeing. Our priority is to ensure you go on holiday and we are, therefore, putting contingency plans in place including using alternative aircraft for our long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March.

  116. Brian James says:

The American FAA said today that Boeing had suggested an interim fix for the 787,namely enclosing the batteries in a steel or titanium box which Boeing say would lessen the risk of a fire on their 787 plane. If the FFA & other US agencies give the ok to Boeings plan it is estimated that it would take at least 3 months to retrofit the 787′s with these boxs. The fact is Boeing does not know what’s causing the problem with the batteries and is going for a short term fix to get the aircraft off the ground. The US papers said that it is very unlikely that the FAA will give the nod to Boeings plan. The thing is I can find this information on the net, but it seems poor old Thomson are being kept in the dark, or not.

  117. Ashley says:

Thomson, We have paid extra to travel on the dreamliner and even more to pay premium seats, if the 787 is replaced with the older 767 then do we get some compensation for dissatisfaction. The reason we booked with thomson is that the 787 was the higlight or the holiday. obviously compensation cannot be discussed on here but would like to know thomsons stance at this point as to be honest it looks bleak at present as to whether you will get your delivery.

    • Rhiannon @Thomson says:

Hi Ashley, We’ve not been given a new delivery date for our first 787 Dreamliner flight and we’re putting contingency plans in place including using alternative aircraft for our long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March. Once we have finalised our contingency plans, we’ll contact customers who flights may be affected.

  118. Clare Shaw says:

Why are people targeting Thomson and complaining about ‘no information’ given about the Dreamliner??? ,I am going to Cancun,nd yes will be dissapointed if he Dreamliner is still grounded, but safety first is paramount.Check Internet for regular news updates,as it stands the last hour today seems a little more hopeful :)

  119. Clare Shaw says:

Sorry about spelling mistakes on blog

    • mags says:

It is not up to passengers to be informed by boeing website IF I buy a cooker in a high street retailers an something goes wrong my contract is with the retailers Not the manufactors the sales of goods and services act so why should it be any different when you buy a holiday from thompson the contract is with them not boeing, also on the website it has stated that boeing is paying out a lot of compensation to the airlines but how much of this will go back to customers for disappointment and inconvience cause by a travel firm over advertising the dreamliner they will of course what reimbursed for all their costs yes they migh be flying the dreamliner in early april but dont forget that before they can take passengers they have to put in flying hours I dont mean to put a damper on you dreams but In the same way it may save further disappointment

  120. Brian says:

That’s exactly right mags. That’s the point that most posters on this blog are trying to make. We were in our local Thomson last week to pay for our holiday to Mexico. I asked staff there whether they believed that 787 flights would start in May, “keep your fingers crossed” they said. When you have paid for a three week holiday in Playa del Carmen and over £600 to fly premium class, keeping your fingers crossed does’nt cut it, you should be entitled to some answers. It seems the staff in the Thomson shops supposedly know very little about what’s going on with the dreamliner, so who are you supposed to ask? the answers from Thomson on this blog have told me very little.

  121. Lyndsey M says:

I have booked to go to Mexico on the dreamliner from Glasgow at the end of May 2013. I am disappointed that it looks as though we will be travelling on the old plane but would rather do that than fly on a place which has safety issues which need to be resolved.

I would say that having flown with Thomsons to Mexico in September 2011, the flight wasn’t great. In particular, the extra legroom did not provide any extra legroom and my 6 ft 4 husband was very uncomfortable. The inflight entertainment at my seat was broken for the duration of the flight which made the flight seem like 20 hours rather than 10.5. Hopefully Thomsons have resolved these issues on the existing aircraft if the 787 wont be flying any time soon.

  122. MARRGARET says:

HI LYNDSEY I WENT ORLANDO IN MAY 2009 ON A 767 INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT WAS BROKEN THEN SO IT LOOKS AS IF THEY DONT BOTHER TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS DID YOU SEE THE LOVELY EXTERIOR REFURBISHMENT, IT IS A SHAME THAT THE SAME DOES NOT APPLY TO THE INTERIOR I WAS ONLY GOING WITH THOMPSON BECAUSE OF THE DREAMLINER OF I WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED ANOTHER HOLIDAY WITH THEM AND I DO HOPE TH\T I WILL NOT BE STARING AT A BLANK SCREEN THIS TIME AND I HOPE YOU DO NOT HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM ALSO

  123. Brian James says:

All Thomson have told us after being asked about the uncomfortable conditions on the 767′s is that they are currently refreshing the livery on these planes. They obviously believe that re painting the outside of the plane will somehow ease the discomfort of the people sitting in it.

  124. marrgaret says:

who see the exterior of a plane when it is flying at so many thousand feet and more to the point who cares have Thompson ensured that ever person premium or otherwise will have in flight entertainment I hope so Thompson are quick enough to quote terms and conditions I think they should equally ensure get the service they advertise I am not looking forward to the 767s and I hope I am wrong but if not I WILL BE CONTACTING TO WATCHDOG

    • Rich m says:

Watchdog? Get a grip. They’re doing NOTHING WRONG!

      • marrgaret says:

well you think what you want but I bet if there was a queue for compo you would be in it I am not bothered about that all I want is a comfortable journey . that is not too much to ask for Thompson should have not been so quick to try and sell their holidays on the Dreamliner and I am sure they were not too bothered about taking customers away from other airlines and they took your money or are you on a free holiday

        • Rich m says:

I am getting what I paid for. I am happy With the service I received. They took your money for a deeamliner flight because they don’t anticipate that Boeing, the biggest and most reliable plane manufacturer, would produce a plane which is not air worthy. Also they were due to take delivery at the end if February and start using it in may. That gives a few months but this problem is potentially bigger. Thomson won’t get anything from Boeing because its for YOUR safety that they don’t fly them, therefore how can thomson compensate you for a problem that isn’t theirs? It’s like you going to sainsburys and complaining about something you bought at tesco – although you probably do that too.

    • Jo B says:

Get a life you lot, this is NOT Thompsons fault, i to am travelling in July to mexico, and have payed for premium seating on the dreamliner as long as i get there and enjoy the holiday that i have saved so hard for who cares, yes the experience would be nice to go on the dreamliner but theres always another time.

      • marrgaret says:

who is to blame? I paid good money for my holiday and expect that I expect a comfortable and safe flight either on a Dreamliner or 767 that is my main concern. have you ever had any problem? if you had would you not complain Thompson will be getting compensation from Boeing poor Thompson a little one man firm I don’t think so and if you were offered compensation would you say no thank you it is not your fault I don’t think so and bully for you that can afford premium seating some of us have to save hard just for a holiday what age group are you in

        • Chard says:

Margaret, I think you need to calm down. Jo B is right it’s not Thomsons Fault and they may get compensation but that will be for things like more expensive fuel for the flight because the 787 is not flying and so the bill for that will be 20% higher.

We all booked a holiday. Yes the plane was a seller but its not just the plane you paid for and it does say that the plane type may change i.e. the scheduled plane could break before the flight and have to be substituted.

And what does age group have to do with anything???????
I’m 28 by the way before you ask and also booked in premium.

          • Rich m says:

Well said. I don’t understand some people – literally in this case! People should spend less time complaining and more time practising their literacy and punctuation skills so a complaint is taken seriously.

        • Jo B says:

we are actually 50 + and saved very hard too :)

          • marrgatet says:

HI JO I AM IN MY SIXTIES AND SAVED HARD ALSO, I BOOKED THE DREAMLINER BEACAUSE I DONT PLANNED ANYMORE LONG HAUL HOLIDAY SO YES I AM DISAPPOINTED NOT TO BE GOING ON THE DREAMLINER BUT ALL I WANT IS A COMFORTALBE FLIGHT, AND WOULD LIKE THOMPSONS TO ADMIT TO THEIR CUSTOMERE AND TELL THEM PLAN B IS WHAT IS BEING CARRIED NOT, BE MESSED ABOUT UNLIKE CHAD I AM THE WRONG END OF THE SPECTRUM FOR MORE LONG HAUL AND THE INSURANCE IT ALSO A LOT HIGHER SO EXCUSE ME IF I GET ANNOYED BUT I THERE ARE ALSO PEOPLE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN THAT HAVE PAY ALOT OF MONEY FOR THEIR HOLIDAY AND THAT IS NOT EVEN PAYING FOR PREMIUM SEATING SO HAVE A HEART MAYBE YOU HAVE MANY MORE OF YEARS TO GO LONG HAUL BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN THAT MAY NOT BE POSSIABLE .IF ALL THE MAYS FLIGHT RESIGN THEMSELVES ON GOING ON A 767 AND ANY MONEY REFUNDED MY THOMPSON FOR PREMIUM SEATING GIVE TO A CHILDRENS FUND FOR ILL CHILDREN TO HAVE THEIR DREAM I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY WITH THAT AND ALSO THOMOPSON COULD ALSO MAKE A BIG DONATION TO THE CHARITY

  125. Rich m says:

In premium economy on the 767 – does the in flight entertainment system have a navigation thing where you can see where you are etc?

    • Stefan @Thomson says:

Hi Rich, Thank you for your question. Having looked into this for you I can confirm Sky Map is part of the in flight entertainment. I hope you have a nice holiday.

  126. claire says:

Marrgaret i agree with you, the posters on here saying thomson arent at fault would without doubt accept compensation if offered!, no way would any of them say its
Ok thomson keep your money!!, NO ONE has said that they blame thomson for the plane being not ready, what everyone is saying is we should be recieving better customer service and options than what we are getting which is not much other than repeat script replies!!, why dont you passengers not finding fault with thomson and their treatment of paying customers tell them to keep their offer of £20 dreamliner premium if we all end up on 767s!! If not then give it away to charity!!

  127. Andrew Gallacher says:

As the prospect of Flying on the Dreamliner gets harder to imagine, can you please explain what the inflight entertainment is on the 767? I have never flown on one before so I have no idea what to expect from the 767. I am booked to fly in Economy from Glasgow on 18th August. Thanks

  128. S. Daniels says:

I feel that I have a good reason to be aggrieved about this problem. I booked our holiday to Mexico because I too wanted to ‘Live the Dreamliner’. The benefits sounded fantastic and I even decided on a cheaper hotel so we could afford to fly Premium. Each of the staff in the travel shop crowded round us when we decided to fly Premium on the Dreamliner! This is, afterall, our honeymoon.

The fact is that, whilst I will get another chance to fly on the Dreamliner, it is unlikely I will be able to fly Premium. I have never flown ‘first class’ before, and will probably not again. This was a treat for our honeymoon that we were really looking forward to. I have accepted that this is now unlikely, despite the amount of times Thomson say they are still planning to fly in May. The plane I fly on is beyond my control, and probably beyond Thomson’s control too. However, what is in their control is giving me a guarantee that the seats we selected on the Dreamliner will be the ones we have on a replacement 767. We selected two seats next to a window and if Thomson Airways put an aisle or other passengers between my new wife and I, I will be bitterly disappointed.

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Mr. Daniels, I can appreciate the frustration this must be causing but at this moment we have no further updates from Boeing concerning our scheduled delivery date. Once we have further information, we’ll then look to let our customers know as soon as possible, should their flight be affected.

    • marrgatet says:

I really do hope you are not disappointed we are going on holidays but you are starting a new life I wish you all the best and I hope they do sort the Dreamliner out by then good luck

America’s United Airlines & Japans ANA airline who by the way already have the Dreamliner, have cancelled all of their 787 flights planned for May & early June. They have taken this action because they know that the 787 Dreamliner problems will not solved by then. Willie Walsh Chairman of British Airways, who also have orders pending for the 787, said a week ago that he did not expect the plane to be in service for several months. Thomson know, just like ANA & United, that the 787 will not be in service during May. The problem is they will not admit it.

    • Lauren K @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, At the moment we don’t have any further information. Once we do we’ll let our customers know.

  130. Ian says:

It is not Thomsons fault that the Dreamliner most probably will not be flying this May. A loopy of people are angry and frustrated but there is no need to to take it out on Thomson on here.

What I do thing though Is people should be allowed a full refund or change their holidays with no fees! Many people had booked these holidays purely for the Dreamliner experience. A 767 is not a 787, The only similarity is that they both fly.

Also people need to stop arguing with eachother on here, A few people think their better than other but were all the same. People have different opinions, Just because they don’t agree with you doesn’t mean you need to clog the blog with insults and childish comments.

Just tried to book our seats to Cancun flight TOM 062. Diagram of premium cabin shows a 3 3 3 seating configuration. the 787 has a 2 3 2 setup so does the 767 in premium class. What’s going on? Plus almost all the seats were taken. I found that strange when you consider we could only book book them starting today March 2nd.

    • Samantha @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, If you have your booking reference handy, I’ll check this for you.

  132. ewan says:

could you confirm that if the dreamliners are not available in may and our flights are transfered to an alternative aircraft ie 767 will this fly at the same time and airport where we are booked in our case east midlands airport?

    • Dan @Thomson says:

Hi Ewan, We’re not cancelling any flights and your holiday will go ahead as schedule, it’ll just be operated by one of our Boeing 767 planes.

Think everyone one needs to take a chill pill.

I am pretty sure Thomson will not want to get a bad name/reputation from this dreamliner issue which frankly is out of there hands.

Those that have paid for Premier seating i believe will get the premier seating. the Dreamliner can take more passengers than the old 767 so use a bit of common sense. they will either put 2 flights on or subcontract those extra 33 passengers out to Virgin or something. but until the end of march there is no point any of you getting irate with the Thomson staff on here as they simply do not know what is happening un end of month.

    thanks Lee

  134. Alan says:

    Hi Lee
Another possibility is, if the Dreamliner is not full, they could use the 767 with 283 seats and ask a number of the premium passengers to downgrade to economy. Thomson said on this blog that all premium seats are taken on the May Dreamliners.
The 283 seater aircraft has only 31 premium seats whilst the Dreamliner has 47.
As Thomson are advertising economy seats on their May Dreamliners they obviously have some economy seats unbooked.
The difference between the Dreamliner and the 767 is only 8 seats on the 283 seater (The other 767 has a total of 258, a shortfall of 33, as you so rightly said.)
So all of you passengers in premium seats in May get ready for a phone call in early April.
Thomson will make sure you have your holiday but your flight will be a little less luxurious than you hoped!!
I believe this is why Thomson are saying you will get your premium seats “where possible”.
If they were intending to fly the 258 seater aircraft they would have 15 premium seats spare and all premium passengers would be accommodated.
Of course Boeing may get approval from the FAA and all will be well.
This is looking less likely by the day. I am sure that Boeing will have fitted the new battery configuration into the Thomson Dreamliners and that they will be ready for delivery as soon as clearance is given.I am always an optimist and acknowledge that Boeing are putting their vast resources behind this 24/7.

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Alan, All Dreamliner flights booked for May and June have now been transferred on to our 767. All customers impacted by this will be contacted and advised of the contingency plans that have been put in place.

  135. Rebecca says:

I have not been able to log on to flight extras for over a week now why is this?

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Rebecca, If you can send me your booking reference number I can check this for you.

  136. Rebecca says:

    Hi it’s 1590724

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Rebecca, You should be able to log in to flight extras within 90 days of your return date. As it’s a little early yet please try again.

  137. Brian says:

Well we were told by Thomson today that we will not be flying the Dreamliner on May 10th. We will as we thought be flying in a 767. The Thomson rep said that they would try to honour the seats we had booked in premium class but they can’t promise anything until we arrive at premium check in at Gatwick.

    • Elaine @Thomson says:

Hi Brian, If you decide to accept the change in aircraft, after 2 weeks of receiving the initial email from us, our seating date will re-select your seats on the new aircraft. You’ll then receive a new confirmation with your seat numbers for the new flight. I hope this answers your query.
