Dream PlaneIf you could design your own dream plane, what would you come up with? Comfier seats? Supersized windows? Whatever tops your wish list, the end result would probably look a lot like the 787 Dreamliner.

We’ve been involved with the design process from the word go, so every inch has been designed with you in mind.

Going on holiday should be all about having fun and taking time to relax.  As one of the few times in the year when you get to spend quality time with those closest to you, it is important that every part of the journey is right.  We think that the comfort and style in which you travel is just as important to your enjoyment as the destination.

    We have booked a 2 week holiday to Mexico from Manchester on Sunday 26 May 2013 (a planned dreamliner flight day). Im assuming that if we booked a holiday on one of the days that the dreamliner is planned to fly that seats are automatically booked on this flight and not another aircraft as the flight number on our confirmation TOM182 doesnt match the one on the dreamliner schedule TOM13130. Or do you have 2 flights on the same date/same time/same airport.

    Hi,
    We’ve also booked for Mexico on 10th Oct 2013 flying from LGW & our flight numbers on our booking are TOM092 & TOM093, nothing like the reference numbers in your dreamliner schedule.
    I have to say, if we end up on one of the 767′s again, we won’t be very impressed after spending that amount of money on the holiday for a tatty plane like we had for Goa

      Hi Angela, The actual TOM numbers aren’t in our brochures but have flight codes. These still relate to your flight and will be on your details but isn’t something you would use yourself. I’ve checked for you and your flight is planned to be on the Dreamliner. I’m sorry you weren’t happy with our 767 plane. I’ll pass this feedback on for you.

      Hi Tim, The configuartion of the seats is 3 3 3 in economy and is 2 3 2 in Premium. You can book your seat numbers 90 days before your return date.

    Confusion abounds!!
    I fly from Manchester on TOM186 to Florida on May 9 2013.I have checked your Dreamliner schedule and the flight leaving at 11.30 is highlighted. My flight leaves at 13.15 and is not on the list.
    I assume it is the same flight as there does not appear to be any other Thomson Florida bound flights on that day.

      The monitors at these locations are in-arm and they pull out in each seat to provide an individual monitor. If you can confirm your TOM flight number with us, we can check you’re on a Dreamliner flight.

I was looking at 9:15am sat 18th may 2013 from manchester which I believe is (TOM144) 0r flight code (13129) on your schedule page highlighted in blue. could you please confirm if this is a dreamliner flight?

    I’ve just read online that Thomsons may have to delay the launch of the Dreamliner as the engine that you have selected, GE rather than Rolls royce, has experienced several failures. Is this correct?
    If this is true can you change to Rolls royce to ensure you fufil your commitment?

    We’ve booked for Mexico to fly out of East Midlands on the 12 June 13 and was checking whether this is still scheduled to fly on the Dreamliner. Also, we’ve upgraded to premium class and was wondering are the tables drop down or from the seat, just had issues in the past with inconsiderate fellow passengers.

    I see that there is a £supplement for flying on a 787. If I book one of these flights, and then for whatever operational reason, end up on a different plane, will Thomson be refunding that supplement?

      Hi David, If for any reason you don’t travel on the 787 the refund will be £10 per passenger per way. And this is detailed in our A-Z. Hope that helps.

    Hi, congratulations on your upcoming 787 delivery. It looks like it is going to be an exciting addition to your fleet. However, I just wanted to ask a question in relation to your advertising campaign, specifically the TV adverts. I think they are rather misleading in that they seem to suggest that the 787 is a Thomson product (e.g. the Thomson Dreamliner, we have designed it with you in mind, etc). Since the aircraft is a Boeing product, should this not be made clear in the advert? Not even a footnote to say ’787 Dreamliner manufactured by Boeing’. What are the rules relating to advertising a service to the public through a product you have simply BOUGHT from someone else? Seems to me that the advert suggests that Thomson have created a unique product in the Dreamliner, which is somewhat misleading since ANA, JAL, Ethiopian etc. already fly this plane. Indeed, when the European airlines receive their own 787 fleet, the USP of Thomson’s Dreamliner will be irrelevant. I’m interested to read your response.

      Hi Samir, Our Dreamliner is a Boeing aircraft, and we do often refer to it as a Boeing product. As we’re the first UK airline to use the plane, we do promote it as a Thomson product, however we do recognise that the aircraft has been made by Boeing themselves in our brochures and online. We appreciate Boeing allowing us to be the first UK airline to fly the 787 and we’re confident that customers will have an amazing flight experience when travelling on it.

It also features connectivity for a variety of personal electronic devices, including digital cameras and mp3 players so you can access via the system your own media from mp3 to digital photos, as well as charging the device. For selected Apple Iphones, Ipads & Ipods, the system also allows customers to access their own video files. Hope this helps.

      Hi David, Having checked with Boeing we have no reason to believe the delivery of our first 787 Dreamliner will be delayed. Our first Thomson Dreamliner is still on track to be delivered early this year. Boeing has reassured us that they are taking action to rectify the issues highlighted to them. I hope this helps.

        Thanks for your reply but yet another safety fear that Japan Airways has grounded the whole of their fleet and this is now the 6th incident in 2 weeks. I know our safety is your priority, however when my wife and I are on our way to Mexico and we are mid over the atlantic 6 six hours from land and smoke appears in the aircraft!!! then what. I don’t think ‘normal booking fee’s apply’ should be charged to swap planes if these safety concerns of your loyal passengers are ‘your priority’!!!. Our last 4 long haul holidays have been booked with you spending in excess of £12000 and yet you discuss us paying a fee to move on to a different flight that we feel safer on.

        You take delivery of your 787 in May and we fly out in June, which gives you only 4 weeks to test your 787. This is not filling my wife and I with confidence??

This will ensure the issues experienced by other airlines operating the aircraft are fully investigated and don’t happen again. We support Boeing in proactively taking action to review their processes and rectify the issues highlighted to them. Like the FAA and Boeing, Thomson is completely confident in the safety of the 787 Dreamliner. Having checked with Boeing we’ve no reason to believe the delivery of our first 787 Dreamliner will be delayed. Our first Thomson Dreamliner is still on track to be delivered next month.     Can you confirm that all flights on the 10th of June are on Dreamliner to Florida? Will Thomson be offering an alternative plane? Or just the Dreamliner? If so, I will have to possibly lose my £700 deposit to find an alternative airline, as the safety of the Dreamliner has to now be a real concearn. I no longer look forward to travelling on this plane, I would rather lose out on a holiday than to knowingly board a plane with so very many serious faults.

    Will everyone stop panicking about the dreamliner. Every new plane has teething problems and this is no different. The press ar just jumping on every little piece of news because they don’t want the dreamliner to be a success. When the A380 first started flying an engine exploded mid flight, the fault was fixed and they are now flying without incident, as will the Dreamliner. I am booked on the dreamliner in May and can’t wait, if you are so worried cancel your holiday .

    This is now going from bad to worse. USA, Poland, Japan, Quatar and the rest of world have all grounded their 787′s. I paid an extra £600 for my wife and I to fly on your new Dreamliner premium class and now I am told to pay a fee to move planes at my cost when in fact you owe me money for the difference. I was told by the you travel agent at the Fort shopping centre Birmingham that ‘I am the first to express concern about this plane’!!!!!!! have they all been briefed what to say?? it seems this way which again makes me think that my safety is NOT your first priority…my money is.

    When you take delivery next month?? do your test flight to Mexico and back (not Manchecter to Birmingham) with staff members and their families and then tell me its ok to fly on it and publish the engineers report. Only then will I be confident that we are all going to fly safely and enjoy our well deserved holidays that we all, no doubt save along time for in this time of economic downturn.

    We booked to go to Florida 3 weeks ago, for the holiday of a lifetime. We are going from Manchester on Fri 12 July on a dreamliner flight and after all the safety concerns in the last 2 weeks, I am extremely concerned. I would be much happier if I knew I would be flying on another Boeing like the 767. I telephoned yourselves yesterday to ask what my options were and I was told that I would need to pay more to amend my booking. I feel as a goodwill gesture, Thomson should offer to swap flights or holidays without the charge, the other option I was given was to lose my £750 deposit! Judging by the comments on here and on other websites there are lots of concerned customers and you are not doing very much for your customer service when comments are published in the paper saying things like “you haven’t had any concern expressed by your customers”. As others have said not happy about being over the Atlantic for 90% of the journey – nowhere to make an emergency landing if needed!!

With all of the problems broadly published in the media regarding the problems, what will Thomsons be doing to ensure that customers who have paid for the premium seats if dreamliner is still grounded has in the place to an equal standard. I will not be happy with the cattle class the airlines call economy seating or premium economy which is not a great deal better.

    We go to Mexico on the dreamliner on 1st May from East Midlands, as others have said I am worried about all these problems with the dreamliner, but I am trying to remain optimistic they will be sorted. However, because its the dreamliner we decided to book premium seats which we wouldn’t normally have done because we had a bad experience flying premium with Thomson previously, really poor service. So I really hope if you do have to swap planes your premium service will be worth the extra money.

At this current time we’re still working towards flying our first commercial Dreamliner on the 1st May 2013. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had a bad experience flying with us before, but as we’re still working towards flying on the Dreamliner we’d not be able to provide you with any specifics of what a change in aircraft would mean for Premium passengers.     Having worked in the travel industry before, I appreciate there will be a set of guidelines clearly laying out exactly what you can (and can’t) include in a reply to anyone here. However, as a mum to one very excited, precious wee boy looking forward to his first long haul holiday (and in Premium seats, as we tried to make it even more special) the obvious and unspoken amongst most recent bloggers is of course “fear”. I – like many others here wish I could afford to lose our deposits, and if the problems aren’t rectified to the satisfaction of the world’s airlines and authorities, I think Thomsons will have to be very careful on how they handle this, whether customers understandably choose the (potentially) safer option of cancelling – or to take the chance and fly. I’m glad I don’t work for any of the airlines, or Thomsons now. I wish us all a safe holiday.

What is the realistic projection of events now that dreamliner deliveries are being halted? Part of the reason we booked this honeymoon was because of that plane.     Rather than just copying and pasting the same answer to every question, why don’t you take stock of the situation and do something about it? I am due to fly on one of your Dreamliners in August to Mexico for my honeymoon. I’ve parted with a lot of money for what I hoped would be a trip of a lifetime. Part of the decision process took into account the new aircraft. My wife to be isn’t comfortable with flying, especially for what is a flight of over 10 hours. The comfort and health benefits you make sound so appealing put my wife to be at ease and the fact you have introduced the flight from East Midlands made it a no brainer. Since the honeymoon has been booked, I’ve continued to follow the ‘Dreamliner Story’ and have obviously been mortified with the recent headline news about the ‘numerous’ faults with the aircraft. The fact the aircraft has now been grounded wouldn’t have been a decision the relevant authorities took lightly, but obviously there is a serious issue which needs resolving before they allow them back into the sky. You continually tell people that you expect to take delivery as scheduled, but how can you sit there and type such comments when Boeing have put on hold ALL future deliveries. It’s conceivable that there could be months of delays and I’m worried you have no back up plan. You clearly will not have enough aircraft to cover the flights should you need to replace the 787 flights with your 767′s. How long will you leave it before you realise it’s too late? You stand to upset an awful lot of people, so I urge you to act now and give those that would like to change the opportunity to do so, without penalty. I warn you now, if you ruin my honeymoon due to poor planning, I will sue your company for what I consider a clear act of negligence. I would be grateful if you could reply without the use of a pre written repetitive response.

    Having been unable to get a clear response from Thompson that fully reassured us that we will be able to fly on the DREAMLINER to Mexico 10 May …we made the decision to change our holiday on Friday…and were charged for the privilege….however I for one am not prepared to sit on a substitute plane in cattle class…and suffer the normal uncomfortable flight offered by Thompson…some goodwill gesture from Thompson would be nice for the people who want to change their holiday would be nice…

If you wanted to change your holiday, which I can see you did, then as per our Terms and Conditions you’d have to pay an amendment fee to do so. If for unforeseen reasons you stayed on your original holiday but weren’t able to fly on the Dreamliner, our Programme Change Team look to let you know as soon as possible to provide you with alternatives. However, as we’re still working towards the first commercial flight date of 1st May 2013, any changes made at this moment in time would be customer-led and subject to an amendment fee. We’d like to reassure you that the safety of our customers travelling on our aircraft is of paramount importance and our number one priority at all times, and I’m sorry you feel like this isn’t the case.

        I am not concerned with the safety issue anyone with half a brain will know the Dreamliner will not fly if its not safe…I was more concerned about the alternatives offered and whether there will be sufficient premier seats left at that late stage…At least this way I am getting a holiday that I really want to go on and even then there was only one room and two seat upgrades available Had i waited for you to offer me an alternative I suspect that would not have been the case.. when i am spending £4k for a holiday i should expect to get what I want not what you decide to offer as an alternative.

    How much notice are you legally required to give passangers for changes in flight/holiday schedules. Im due to fly in the 25/5/13 to mexico and i know for a fact this is a dreamliner flight. I have paid almost £6000 for this once in a life time honeymoon including excursions. Our annual leave is pre booked as is our parents who will be on childcare duties while we are gone. An your repeated replies are not filling me with any confidence what so ever. It appears you are happy to take everyones money but are not happy to deal with the problems and give an adequate solution to people queries. I want to know what is the least amount of notice you have to give me to change my flight. Will it be a change of flight or an actual change of holiday and destination?????????

      Hi Mark and Haley, You’ll still be able to access our Flight Extras site even though you’ve booked in store. Just use your flight and accommodation reference number which is 4-7 digits long. Or you can call our Thomson Airways Team on 0871 231 4787. Seat selection opens 90 days before your return flight. As it’s a new plane we haven’t published the seating plans at the moment, but to give you an idea our Premium Club cabin will be a 2-3-2 configuration and our Economy Club cabin will be a 3-3-3 configuration.

Can you tell me what will happen if the dreamliner is not flying and you change the plane. Will we still get premium seats? This answer will have a bearing on what we decide to do as there is no way we can travel to Florida in economy seats, it will be too uncomfortable. If this is a possibility we are likely to change our booking to somewhere short haul!

I hope and prey this plane is not available, it has too many problems, and my brother is a Captain with a major UK airline and backs up my worries, This is the kind of thing that may indeed put Boeing out of business, and like others have said, what is your back up plan? Do you have alternative planes that will be available to fly to Florida in June should your fleet not arrive on time?

I’m looking at changing the booking to go somewhere else as i would be gutted if we were given a 767 to go on after spending a lot of money for the Dreamliner. I personally think that they are going to take a while fixing the problem and that Thomson won’t get them on time. If i were to change how long do i have left to change it? I know it will cost but it will be cheaper in the long run! The balance has to paid by Feb 13th. Thanks

    I understand everyones worry and panic over the dreamliner being safe and its delivery being delayed but everyone need to understand that boeing are not going to let the planes fly again until there are cleared as safe and only then can they deliver the planes.
    Thomson are doing there best under the circumstances to keep people in the picture but until such time as boeing sort this problem out everyone including the airlines are totally in the dark.

    Boeing certainly cant afford for this to go on for months and im sure that it will be resolved in the next few weeks.
    Yes this will delay the delivery by a couple of weeks maybe even moving it back to march but as the 1st flight isnt till may this will still give thomson plenty of time to clcok up the air miles it needs to send the plane long haul.

    SO PLEASE let thomson do what there best at and thats making all our holidays special and STOP MOANING because when you bboked your holiday you knew it was on a NEW plane and if you had done your homework you would know about new planes and teething problems from when airbus launched there last new plane.

      With respect Jon, teething problems associated with Airbus’ latest launch (A380) did not result in a flight ban for the aircraft type. To a certain extent, I agree that people worrying about safety because they are due to be on a 787 is needless (the aircraft will only fly if completely safe) but at the same time there are plenty of people here enquiring about their upgrades that they PAID for the Dreamliner. If they don’t get those (and at present it looks like they might not) should they just stay quiet? I don’t think so. You seem v. confident that Boeing will fix this soon because they simply can’t afford it to go on for long but that is not the driving force here. The driving force is convincing the FAA and Japanese authorities that the 787 is safe to fly and those bodies don’t care how long it takes, it needs to be 100% safe, regardless of how much money Boeing loose. Consequently, your assertion that this will be fixed in a few weeks is baseless.

            Hi David, As I said we would try to make sure that any passenger who has upgraded their seat remain in that seat type. It’s only if a change has occurred and a file is opened we’d be able to confirm exactly which offer of seats you’d receive as it could be a different aircraft or even a different Carrier. With this in mind I can’t guarantee you’d definitely be given an extra legroom seat should a change occur however you would have priority for them over all other passengers including Premium.

It is reasonable to ask that if you are unable to provide the select your seat service, will Thomson be offering a full refund (to those that choose it) as you would be unable to fulfil all the requirements of the contract?

      To clarify, I am suggesting that customers should know if the aircraft has changed 90 days prior to non-return flight or 90 days prior to return flight for select your seat (if return purchased), so the ifs and buts as to whether or not there will be a delay to the Dreamliner should be answered in the next few days. If not – then Thomson will not be fulfilling its select your seat part of the contract.

            Leanne (and everyone in this dept) – if you cant answer the questions and from what I have seen so far from this blog; only suppy ‘stock’ answers, then there is little point in having this forum. Nothing personal, just an observation.
            As a long term customer with Thomson, I am very annoyed that having booked on the basis of the Dreamliner marketing, that they are still not coming clean with regard to what is now a very good probability that they will not be able to honour the first part of the flight schedule at least.
            Thomson need to act now to offer the customers the chance to switch or stick. Its completely unfair to hold us to ransom knowing that there is little we will be able to do to switch if they limit the notice period to weeks or even days before scheduled take-off.
            If Thomson do not act quickly, I for one will be booking with Virgin in future.

    I am booked on the 787 Dreamliner from gat wick to Sanford on the 1/5/13. I am due to pay the balance for the holiday on the 6/2/13 but have serious concerns as to whether you will have taken delivery of the Dreamliner with all the known problems currently being experienced by Boeing. I flew last year(2012) with you in premium class and was appalled at the standard of comfort offered in this class and would not choose to fly on another of your 767′s again. What assurances can you give with the current situation that this would not happen. I know from reading on the Internet that a Norwegian airline is receiving delivery of the Dreamliner in April 2013. If they have been advised of delivery then it is reasonable to assume that other airlines would have received similar information. I’m sure this is of concern to other travellers and would like a definitive answer.

    im booked to go to florida first week in june.. i have, major concerns about my once in a life time hols.. never every thought i would ever be able to take my family on a florida trip.. all i keep seeing in your replys is we are in contact with boeing, about saftey issues and taking over the first dreamliner… too be honest dont you think the saftey of your passengers are the priority here.. you are not sounding confident in this matter.. as you seem to be refering from book statements.. i have major fears for my children, and had to have therapy for this.. and this doesnt seem to be looking good.. as for replys about people wanting to change flights due to “pure gut renching fear” and we have to abide by terms and conditions.. thats rubbish.. my son works for a airline, and has advised that we can make changes to our booking, and NOT be charged, due to it being not fault of the customers, as its to do with the airline company..i payed extra insurance for my holiday, to cover my payments for my hols.. looks like i may have to recover my money back and book another hol, because you carnt give anyone a straight answer, just repeated answers..

Given the complex operations required around flight scheduling etc, I cannot believe that Thomsons would have allowed Boeing to offer ‘The Spring’ as a delivery date. I also asked how much notice will customers get if there is a change, which is becoming increasingly likely.
            If ‘the spring’ is April, then are you suggesting that its possible customers on May 1st Flights might only get a few weeks or even days notice of any possible change?
            Come on Thomson, get a grip! you cannot continue to spout the same rhetoric, its beginning to look as though no-one in Thomson has control of the situation and the longer this continues, the more frustrated customers are going to be. Show you are in control by providing straight answers and dates when options will be given should the current delays continue.

Given the aircarft is due to be delivered by the end Feb, I will expect either confirmation of my Dreamliner flight or the option to cancel with full refund on 1st March.

At some stage (and I believe that point has already past); Thomson must take control of the situation and accept that whatever thier best intentions, its probably not going to happen and that plans are underway to change to 767′s and customers can be assured that their flights are secured – or that they can have a full refund. Leaving customers hanging with only 3 months to go is totally unacceptable.

            Christina – with respect, the points that most customers are making is not about the safety of the Dreamliner it is about the fact that customers do not know the following 1) If it will be delivered 2) If it is not, will a replacement plane be provided (given that a number of Thomson aircraft were to be phased out this winter – are replacements available. 3) Will customers who booked premium steats or seats together etc, still recieve this? 4) When will customers be told and what options will they have? These questions are causing frustration and Thomson need to start answering – now.

As my colleague Dan’s stated, we do have a standard aircraft change plan as a contingency which can be found in ‘Our Agreement’. This details that our Programme Change Team would look to offer customers suitable alternative options if passengers were unable to fly on the Dreamliner. This would include looking to match Premium Club passengers with Premium seating on the replacement aircraft. If there were a change to any element of a package holiday, our Programme Change Team would look to contact the affected passengers as soon as possible.

    i have been to flordia a few times now and the reasons i booked this year was to fly on the dreamliner so i feel cheated it looks as if i should have waited to 2014 and by then i would have a choice of airlines i think it is about time thompson stopped saying that they are stii expecting delivery of the 787 and were true to loyal customers boeing have stopped the delivery of the dreamliner so i cant see any of the mays flights happening now

    And so it begins then without any notification from Thomsons… your delivery of your 1st 787 is now going to be delayed until they find the electrical fault that caused the battery to catch fire. I have read that this could be a long drawn out process and the chances of a 1st flight for May is looking more doubtful. After all the concerns that myself and your passengers have and yet not one offer of a free change to a different flight, all we get is ‘subject to standard term’ etc etc.

    So here is my dilemma? I change flights now and receive a £198 refund for the difference in flight change but still in premium class or I wait to you admit that the dreamliner is not going to be ready for my flight in June and you will swap me on a ‘like for like’ and I get no difference back. this is not like for like as its a 787 for a 767 which yes I agree is a plane but not this all singing and dancing Dreamliner.

    If no admittance is made soon I will encourage all passengers due to fly on this plane to speak with their feet and book with another airline such as Virgin where premium seats are cheaper…..

    Decided to change my holiday this May from Mexico on the Dreamliner to Cuba on the 767! I got told i have to pay the shop price to that on the website! Not happy! If i cancel the holiday i lose £500! Only way around this is to change the booking to go somewhere like spain in October so i don’t lose the deposit and book a holiday for this May with Thomas Cook as they have the same hotel in Cuba and i will be saving £300!!     To be honest I’m not overly bothered if I get to fly the dreamliner or not, it would have been nice but I didn’t book my holiday purely depending on which plane I flew on. I still get to have my 2 weeks in florida with my family so as long as we travel safely whether its a 767 or a 787 or whatever who cares, I for one don’t!!

      The problem is – there has been no confirmation from Thomson that if the Dreamliner is delayed, that contingencies are in place and that alternative flights will be offered.
      If you booked a scheduled Dreamliner flight there is no guarantee as yet that you will get your 2 weeks in Florida with your family.

Unfortunately we don’t have any further information regarding the change of aircraft’s. We do of course have a change policy for all of our aircraft’s, which includes the new 787 Dreamliner. It details that if for some reason we need to make a change through-out the season with our aircraft fleet, then we may do so. We will then notify affected customers as soon as possible with their new aircraft information. Holidays will be in place and new arrangements will be made by our Programme Change Team.

The fact that your policy also states that you ‘may’ make a change if you need to, is also not the same as we are able too.       My argument is that if I had chosen to go to Mexico from Manchester on a 767 is was £200 each cheaper than flying from East Midlands on the Freamliner! If the aircraft was changed to a 767 I would not get that £200 each back I would just get a supplement back. Also if they had to change the date of the holiday because the Dreamliner would be delayed that would mean a loss of Airport parking,Airport hotel, Excursions! I’m not willing to to sit here and wait till possibly the last minute wondering if ill be going or not and losing money or not! Since I have changed the holiday (so I don’t lose the deposit) to somewhere at the end of the year and rebooked another for May with Virgin Holidays to Florida to do a road trip to which was half the price of the Mexico holiday :)

    I have paid a £700 deposit for the holiday I plan to take in June, so regardless of what happens with Boeing (and this will not be something that seems to be happening very quickly FAA ruling and now future plans of strike action by Boeing staff) I would expect Thomson to either put us onto another plane in the sake seating plan as we have paid for (premium) or if not a possibility then a full reimbursement of any money paid soon to be a full and final payment of £3000, the copy and pasted replies of YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD THE DREAMLINER FLEET ARE NOT ON SCHEDULE is filling people with a false sense of relief, the matter is unresolved currently with its issues, and therefore no planes either current or future planned will be leaving Boeing to go anywhere without matters being resolved. I think the future for Boeing full stop is very much in jeopardy and the future of the 787 is very much in doubt after these unrelated issues.

    I would say that if it continues, Thomson, BA etc will have no option but to cancel there current and future orders that involve planes from Boeing as I think there future plans for the Dreamliner may very much be in doubt if this continues, strike action is never good, but if they do strike, this is possibly the end of the plant producing the 787.

    Hi i’m no avaiation expert but even I know that the chances of this plane being ready for our flight in may to florida are very slim at the least. We did change our complete holiday to fly on this plane, our concern is that the longer you drag this out the more likley it is that our flight may be cancelled. We have booked to go for 3 weeks and have spent a fortune on park tickets for this holiday. We are able to pre book our seats in the next few days yet there is no seating plan available so how is this going to work? we have paid for extra leg room and want to be sat together so have to be on the ball as there are not may extra leg room seats and we dont fancy a 10hr flight seperated can you tell me when this seating plan is going to be ready. We have had several phone calls asking us to book premium seats but when my husband called back regarding this he got through to a call centre in india and the service was shocking, he was advised on a previous post to e-mail you the infomation which we did but as of yet there has been no reply.
    Can you asure us that even is the dreamliner isn’t ready we will a refund for the premium we have paid for flying on this plane and that we will get to our destination no matter what plane is used. We paid for this holiday in full back in Septemeber and to be honest feel we are being fobbed off by Thompson. If our flight is cancelled we stand to loose more than the cost of the holday, what with park tickets which were £1000 and boarding our dogs whilst away and thats not even taking into account the holidays we were loose at work which are very precious to us. Thompson just seem to be giving text book answers which I no doubt you have on a script given to you when this fiasco started, so isn’t it about someone grew a pair told us what is really happening.
    The plane has been sat at boeing for weeks but untill the planes already in service have been sorted there is not a chance this plane will be released…. come on Thomspn stand up and be counted give us thruthful answers.

        I’m not sure you have read what I have written. I asked for a reply that wasn’t the normal script ie our programme change team will be in contact if we change things or the normal we are still on schedule to take delivery of our plane as planned. You may well take delivery and ur programme team may well be in contact ( or should I say will be in contact but you dont want to admit it) but the fact remains that without a miracle this plane will not be ready to fly come may. Boeing have 50 planes that should be in service that will need the fault rectifying before they even think about looking at yours and as of yet they dont have a clue what is causing the problem. I work in customer relations so know exactally what the standard responces are all about and the fact remains that Thompson are more than willing to take thousands of pounds from people but not so fast to give answers. Whats the chances of people being allowed to pay the final sum for the holiday once this dreamliner has had the problem fixed seeing as your so sure it will be ready ? NONE I BET. Like I said in my last post my holiday has been paid for since September but there are people out there who are expected to hand over thousands of pounds in the next few days for something you can not say 99% will even happen. I asked for assurances that another plane will be laid on if (when ) the dreamliner isn’t ready yet no proper answer, I asked if we would get a refund for the premium we have paid to fly on this plane ? no answer. SO WHEN WILL WE GET ANSWERS OR ARE WE JUST GOING TO WAIT AND GET A PHONE CALL DAY BEFORE WE FLY TO SAY WHATS HAPPENING. I’m happy to fly on another plane but just want to know the flight will actually go to america. I find your replys a waste of time and feel that you as a company are letting us as loyal passengers down. I have already booked another holiday in October to tenerfie but wont be using Thompson—- thankgod for Jet 2.

    Me and my family are due to fly by dreamliner may 13th and to be honest i cant see the dreamliner being ready by then, the faults havent been found let alone started to replace or fix whats faulty on them all then theres now a strike possible with boeing and thomson would also have to fly the plane so many thousand miles before putting in service for all of us, i think its obvious thomson must be thinking up a plan but arent wanting to say too soon coz the closer it gets to may etc they will of had all our balance moneys from us, eg 12 wks b4 our flight out to our holiday, so us that are due to fly in may will all be paid up in full if not already then in the nxt couple wks and our money is stuck with thomson and we got to then hope they can get us on holiday!, its too expensive for me to cancel i was told £1500, and £20 each person refund if dont fly dreamliner, well we could of gone with virgin for cheaper than that!, thomson should be giving us more info on what they must already be thinking ofputting into place as i dont believe for 1 minute that they havent thought about it and lets have it right, what can we do?, our moneys all stuck with them anyway if your going on hol in may!!!!, speak up thomson!!

    Hi I am due to fly to Mexico on the Deamliner on 1st July from Glagow(TOM 518) for three weeks and I know I cannot book seats online until 90 days of return flight, I also know that I can phone and book outward flights and then book my return later, but is there anyway I can get a copy of the seating plan so I know which seats to book when I phone

We will pass your feedback on to our flight team and there may be a plan that can be released in the future.       Are Thomson able to confirm this i.e. that if you use the Thomson phone service, they will accept seat selection for the outbound flight at 90 days and you can call again for the return at 90 days?
      I didnt think you could do anything at all until 90 days prior to the return journey (online or by phone).

We state that it’s 90 days prior to the return date as the flight plans may not always go live before the 90 days to your departure date.     Following on from Dave’s comment. I have booked a flight leaving in May and returning 21 days later. I was told by Thomson that I could phone and book my outward journey 90 days before my departure. Otherwise the people who have booked 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19 and 20 day returns would be able to book ahead of me on the outbound flight. I paid a premium of £200 a seat for 21 days over the cost of 14 days and told Thomson it was unfair.
    By definition the seat plan for a plane returning in 7 days or 21 days must be the same on the outward journey. After all it is the same plane going. Don’t know why Thomson use 90 days from return – it seems inequitable. I realise the plan may not be available for the return leg 111 days ahead but when it is released I will be able to go on line and book on a first come first served basis – which is fair.
    My problem is that if I wait for 90 days from return to book my outward journey the vast majority of travellers will have booked ahead of me and I will have little choice – most unfair considering the premium paid.

At the moment, no seats have been selected so the flight plan is clear for all passengers.         My arithmetic shows 238 economy sold and 37 premium.
        Now comes the challenge
        Thomson use 2 types of 767
        The first with 196 economy and 62 premium. leaving a shortfall of 46 in economy and an excess of 25 in premium. An overall shortfall of 21 and you are continuing to sell seats which can only make the position worse. I suggest you halt sales until you take delivery of the 787. I know this will cost you a few hundred £ but at least you will be looking after loyal customers who have booked.
        The second scenario is for you to utilise the other 767 in your fleet.
        This has 252 economy and 31 premium. This would give an excess in economy of 14 and a shortfall in premium of 6.
        You have reduced the price of the premium upgrade from 499 to 319 in an effort to sell extra seats – which would work for premium passengers in the first case but would be a disaster in the second.
        I appreciate that you are going to say Boeing have not told you that delivery will be delayed.
        If this is the case then all will be fine but realism has to kick in and the likely outcome analysed.
        Boeing have to find the fault and then fix it within 4 weeks and get their approval to fly reinstated.
        Lots of test flights will be required and a new certificate will not issued quickly – especially when Boeing had not informed the FAA that they had been experiencing battery problems for a number of weeks.
        Also Boeing engineers are talking of strike action!!
        I would suggest that your delivery date of February 28 is simply not achievable and you hold fire on any further ticket sales on early May flights.

          Hi Alan, Sorry for the confusion. If you’re wanting to select your seats online yourself, you’ll be able to do this online 90 days before your inbound flight back to the UK. If you would like to select your seats over the phone with the Airways Team you can call them 90 days before your outbound flight to select your seats for the outbound journey and you’ll then need to call them back 90 days before your inbound journey to select your inbound seats.
          Should we not receive our Dreamliners in time, customers holidays will be unaffected and they will travel on an alternative aircraft. Customers would also be refunded the premium for the 787 they have paid. We will of course strive to give customers as much notice as possible.

    I have booked a return flight Glasgow to Sanford on the Dreamliner and in Premium on the 21st of July 2013 for 3 weeks. I have a bit of an issue with the seat booking. I am unable to book my seats until 90 days prior to the return flight but as I am going for three weeks will I have to wait another week than everyone else who will be booking the seats on the outward flight and are only going for two weeks. Please confirm as I have young children I we need to be seated together it is not an option to be seated away from your 4 and 5 year old for 10 hours. Thanks

Unfortunately at the moment if there are any passengers who are on the same outbound flight but returning sooner than you, there is a chance that they’ll reserve their seats. We are taking on board customer feedback about this service.         Please advise why you would disadvantage a customer who has booked a three week trip instead of a two week trip. This is crazy. Why can I not book my seats 90 days in advance of the outbound flight instead of the inbound flight. If I am unable to book my seats in advance for both flights and it looks as though it will now not be a Dreamliner either then this will be the last I ever book with Thomson anywhere. Can you confirm either of above for me please.

          Hi Stuart, Our policy for reserving seats on any of our flights is 90 days before each journey, we recommend if customers would like to book both journeys at the same time then they should book 90 days before the inbound flight. You can book your outbound seats 90 days before, and then your inbound seats 90 days before the inbound journey, this is when the seating plan is made available to all customers on that flight.

    I have been reading the blogs and It seems to me that the replies from thompson are not so confident as the were two weeks ago especially when they talk about premium refunds. Of course boeing will not admit to their customers thompsons that they will not be getting their delivery of the dreamliner for may flights, it is going around in circles I do not expect to be on a dreamliner flight in may I have given up hope like many others it the not knowing is the worst .

    I was told yesterday by Thomson branch that there was no real problem with the dreamliner, just an issue with one single battery and that it is all pretty much sorted, the media has basically made it up and that Thomson are about to receive delivery of their planes any day now and will carry out their own checks. There will be no problem with May dreamliner flights. I have read up quite extensively on this and I am not sure a single word I was told is true, but perhaps you can clarify the latest position please.

I suspect Thomson will end up with some fairly poor press coverage in the not too distant future unless they start to deal with this a little better than they are. If the planes arrive on time or there is only a short delay they will probably get away with it and that’s what they are counting on.

      Hi Mark, All seats on the Dreamliner will have your own personal in-flight entertainment system. As you’re in the extra space seats these will most likely be in the arm rest which you pull out, they should also have USB connectivity.

    I have a holiday booked to Florida in June for my family of 5 and it is supposed to be on the 787 from Manchester. Currently as most people on this blog, we are concerned on 1st the safety of the aircraft but also will it be flying or do we have an option to change. Also the BBC were reporting yesterday that Boeing have cancelled ALL deliveries though they have asked the FAA for permission to conduct test flights.

      Hi Sally, On our other long haul aircraft the seat pitch is a minimum of 33 inches. If you would like to transfer your holiday to travel at a later date you may have to pay an amendment fee, you will lose part of the money paid towards the holiday, and you will also have to pay the difference between the money you have paid on your old holiday and the cost of the new holiday if it is any more.

    Just tried to book seats online 90 days before your return flight – and managed to get outbound (non-dreamliner) seats then tried to do inbound dreamliner seats but didn’t like any configuration that we wanted. So now lost our original seats on outbound and can’t do anything with the inbound as the system not letting us book anything :-(

        I also share the worry of others regarding alternative aircraft and class. If the Dreamliner is not ready, especially when i’m due to fly back from Orlando on the 9th May which is very close to the 1st May starting point, which aircraft would you use? The main reason for booking with yourself was the new plane.

          Hi Neil, We understand fully how very disappointing this will be for many customers should our flights not go ahead, but unfortunately these circumstances are out of our control. We’re currently in the process of putting in place contingency plans should there be a change. Where possible we’ll look to re-allocate customers onto a Thomson Airways 767. We operate a number of 767′s and the size of our premium cabin varies. Once we have more information from Boeing regarding delivery dates we’ll be able to look at which 767’s we have available to use in our fleet. As soon as Boeing confirm our delivery schedule, should there be any customers impacted, we will immediately contact those customers to confirm all details.

          Hi David, I’ve checked this for you and can see that your outbound flight will be on a 767 and your inbound flight back to the UK will be on one of our Dreamliners. The reason for this is that the Dreamliner begins to operate on other routes from November onwards. As your outbound flight is in October it won’t yet be part of the new routes until the following week, on your return. I hope this helps.

    Boeing have said that they have informed airliners that are due to get their new planes that the aircrafts have been or are at risk of delay.     Thomson Airways has confirmed it is putting contingency plans in place in case it cannot go ahead with its Dreamliner launch in May.
    As the investigations continue into battery problems with the next generaiton aircraft, Thomson said Boeing has not not yet given it a new delivery date for its first 787 Dreamliner.
    In a statement today, it said it was looking at back-up plans, including using alternative aircraft for its long-haul flights to Mexico and Florida if delivery is delayed beyond the end of March.

    “Once we have finalised our contingency plans we will contact customers whose flights may be affected.”
    Thomson was due to become the first UK airline to start flying the 787 and had set the date of May 1.

    I understand how you still haven’t heard from Boeing re delivery of the dreamliner, but what’s Thomson’s policy when a different aircraft is used regarding the allocation of premium seats if already booked.
    Would you try and best match the aircraft or is it just down to availability of aircraft also do you do the same with seats, does it go on when you booked your holiday or what seat you’re booked into. I understand sometimes aircrafts are used with different numbers of PE seats in. Currently there are 11 seats left on our flight
    I’m just concerned that we won’t get PE seats if another aircraft is used. I booked last April on the first day the summer dates came out. Due to various reasons we really do need more room on plane.

    I also remain hopeful that the dreamliner will be delivered but also understand it’s not Thomson’s fault for the delay if it was not and that I will be contacted if things were to change.
    As long as I land in Sanford on 7th May preferably around 4pm having flown in PE seats I’ll be a happy bunny :)

        Thanks for your reply Adam. I know I’ll get the PE service (thankfully absolutley love it) but my concern is how seats will be reallocated should the aircraft change. I realise seat allocation is not gaurenteed, but we booked our holiday in April 2012 so would be really upset if someone who booked in December 2012 was spoken to first about changing seats. I am really worried because I I’ve chosen a window seat as I get a bit clostrophobic and window seats help me also I don’t think I’ll fit into an economy seat :( . So for these reason I’m seeking some reassurance. Sorry to be a pain but £6000 worth of holiday has taken some saving for not taking into consideration the mental energy and excitement ;)

          Hi Jane, The size of the premium cabin in our 767’s depends on which version of the aircraft we use from our fleet. At the moment we are looking into contingency plans, once we have more information from Boeing on delivery dates we will be able to look at which 767’s we have available to use in our fleet. We’ll of course look to substitute the 787 with an aircraft that has enough seats to get our customers to their chosen holiday destination. I hope this offers you some further reassurance.

    British carrier Thomson Airways said Friday it has been notified of possible delays in the delivery of the first of eight Dreamliners it has on order. The jet was due to be delivered later this month for service from the U.K. to Sanford, Fla., and Cancun, Mexico.     So now its official that you are now putting plans in place due to the late delivery of your dreamliner. Can you now admit that May flights are now not going to happen and start offering alternative flights/refunds. I called one of your shops and they told me that delivery will be delayed this month and it is unlikely that delivery will happen in March either, which means my flight in June is not looking good. I live 10mins from BHX airport and I would of have had to of flown from east Mids which 1hr away. I am not going to fly from a further away airport to go on a 767, when I can do this from Birmingham (pointless) and have to pay £100 to change flights after spending £3300 on my holiday.

        Thankyou for your reply but yet again a stock answer. i have changed my flight and been refunded £198 difference when in fact the same holiday on line is £600 cheaper to fly from BHX premium cabin on a saturday. So not only have I had to pay more in the first instance to fly on the dreamliner, i now only get a small amount back. I advise all passengers to take the £50pp hit to change flights otherwise the chances are you are not going to get your premium cabin seats of in fact the flight that you want.
        After 8 years of booking with Thomson’s this is the last time i book my holiday with you. If it wasn’t due to the fact that I would loose £500 which I can hardly afford, i would cancel my holiday and book elsewhere.

    However Dreamliner carries 291 passengers and 767s 30 or 40 fewer passengers
    What will happen to those passengers who miss out and how wil you priorotise passengers onto flights

Once we get more information on delivery dates, we’ll then be able to calculate which flights may be affected and which type of 767’s we have available. From there we’ll contact all customers affected accordingly and update them with their new flight information.

We’re currently in the process of putting in place contingency plans so that we can make sure customers holidays will still go ahead and they will travel with the same level of service on an alternative aircraft.     I have read all of the above and are due to fly on Dreamliner to Mexico in August having paid a premium to do so. I think that a goodwill gesture by Thomson is to offer customers full refunds of deposits or free amendments to holiday changes. This is not the customer’s fault and the holiday company is at fault. This is not just about a few flight delays. The alternative planes being offered are not a substitute for the Dreamliner. Disappointed with Thomson’s responses so far. Very embarrasing for TUI UK Ltd.

    If as John has said on an earlier post that there is a difference of about 40 seats between the 767 and the dreamliner you prioritise passengers onto the flight by booking date because we booked in September I think it would be unfair to put someone who has booked after us onto the flight first if you have a storage of forty ish seats

    in May 2012 we booked our holiday to florida flying on the 5th may 2013 from birmigham airport but when we saw the adverts for the dremliner we chagned our whole holiday to fly from manchester on the 7th may 2013 on this plane. we paid the full amount for this holiday in august 2012 and have been looking forward to this trip since then. When i changed this booking I was charge a premium to do so incuring extra costs for the privaliage. I have been in contact with Thompson several times only to get the bog standard responce of sorry to hear your dissappointed but never giving any straight answers. 2 DAYS ago we were told they were stillon course to take delivery of the plane ready to fly in May dispite the fact that it had been all over the news that the planes had been delayed and Thompson were fully aware of this fact. You have stated several times that once you have any information you will contact customers straight away …… well I have checked my phone everyday and i’ve not had 1 phone call from you about this, my husband had a call yesterday and just when we thought we might have some answers ….. guess what it was???? hello mr stocks can we sell you premium seats at £319 a seat. Forgive me if im being harsh but ive already paid for a seat that you cant even guarentee im going to get yet alone paying more. I have asked to change my booking back to brimingham and you guessed it you want to charge me more fees…………… you must be flaming joking. You have had my money in full since august and i find it disgraceful that you find it acceptable to keep fobbing us off. I work in customer service and im sure if the ceo of thompson called for his boiler to be repaired and I said pay me now and i might only might send you an engineer in 9 months time but if you want to change this appoinment that will be another fee he/she would be furious demanding somethng be done.     Customers should be given the full premuim back and refunds issued if people want to cancel. At the end of the day im a Thompson customer and you have had my money, you ( Thompson) are boeings customer, you will be set to claim compensation but wheres ours. I dont mind flying on a differant plane but do not feel I should be paying over the odds for it becuase Thompson cant tell the truth. We’d like to reassure you that we’re still working very closely with Boeing while they complete their full investigation of the aircraft. As a business we would only take delivery of an aircraft if we were 100% sure that it was safe to operate. The safety and security of all members and our customers is of the utmost importance and when the aircraft is back in service we’ll have absolutely no hesitation flying it. We’ve got every faith that Boeing and its ability to fix these issues quickly.

      If it were the case should we not receive our first Dreamliner, the holidays will not be cancelled and they’ll still be able to fly to their holiday destinations. We’re currently working on contingency plans should this occur. Our customers where possible will switch to a 767, and those who have paid for the premium club will be refunded the premiums paid to fly on the 787 Dreamliner. This will also be the case for all customers, seated in economy class.

      We understand fully how very disappointing this will be for many customers should the flights not go ahead, but unfortunately these circumstances are out of our control. I hope this has helped answer your query.

        I too decided to fly Manchester when Birmingham would have been ALOT easier but wanted to fly the Dreamliner.

        I wish Thomson would stop saying “we will have another plane in place if need be” because this is not the point!..

        I want to change to Birmingham if the plane isn’t a 787 not travel 90 odd miles to fly on a plane I could fly on in Birmingham for £86 cheaper not to mention petrol money to Manchester what a complete joke!

        You would think it would help Thomson out a little people wanting to change to different airports so they don’t have to many people turning up at Manchester if the 787 doesn’t fly.

        My flight is to Mexico on May 4th it’s obviously not going to happen so Thomson need to get there selfs into gear and help passengers out instead of fobbing them off.

        So can you tell me when I can change to Birmingham without having to pay £100 admin fees and get the money back I’d of saved if I paid to fly from Birmingham in the first place??!!!!! Never again Thomson never again get your selves sorted

I had a choice of 2 closer airports for the same flight but decided it was worth the extra cost for what i deemed to be an upgrade. Now you can not supply what I have paid for so why should I pay again to downgrade to what I had booked in the 1st place. you keep saying that its out of your control but this is not my problem, as I have already stated i am your customer not boeings, so it is down to your company to solve my issues to my satisfaction. Thompson will get compensation from boeing for all the delays so what do tompson propose to give back to us customers that are also suffering. Can you also tell me why as a company you are still selling seats for the dreamliner for the exact flight i am going on? Boeing has not confirmed the Thomson Airways delivery schedule and we are still waiting for a confirmed delivery date from Boeing. However, we have every faith in Boeing and its ability to fix these issues as soon as possible. If the delivery date were to move to April we may then need to use alternative aircraft to fly our customers on their holiday. Once we understand our delivery schedule from Boeing, and if this does impact on our 787 Dreamliner flight operations we will then communicate alternative aircraft types to customers.

          I had the same problem. Cut your losses and change now. The offer which has been published is £10 for your trouble and the the chances of the same hotel on a saturday flight is remote. We changed ours to a saturday from Birmingham from East Mids to beat the rush. We actually got money back £198 as we are flying premium cabin. Don’t wait to be frobbed off, do your self a favour and change as your compensation will be laughable.

    A 767 is not even similar to a 787 though, especially your worn out versions of the planes. Lets not forget that thomson airways were replacing them with the 787 because of the benefits the 787 offered your customers. Flying on a 767 is not equivalent, I could of saved a fortune flying with virgin if If I wanted to go on a 767, atleast they have had a recent refurb. I am sure that you as a company will be seeking compensation from boeing , but your not offering your customers anything. We are all aware that we may still get to fly the 787 , although it looks less likely each day. What we want to know is what will happen if you don’t recieve your dreamliner?? Flying on one of your old tatty soon to be replaced 767′s is not really an option as it doesn’t offer the same services advertised. Maybe us as customers should get together and contact watchdog to voice our concerns. I can see your already getting some flack on Facebook. Your responses to us are just being taken from the Q&A section of your recent brief from head office. We would like a human response please, surely there has got to be someone there who can escalate this for us. You can see from this blog alone that there are many unhappy customer, or is this just the “norm” for thomson?

Boeing have no idea when the problems will be fixed and the aircraft given certification to fly by the FAA. Until then, Boeing will not be able to provide Thomson with a delivery date. So, even without a ‘new’ confirmed delivery date from Boeing, Thomson will have to inform its early scheduled Dreamliner customers that their aircraft has changed. All we want to know, is how much notice prior to Flight date will Thomson provide?

    I have just received an email from Thomson offering me a late booking deal on the Dreamliner leaving early May. This is staggering considering the uncertainty surrounding delivery of this plane.
    Thomson are saying the delivery date is out of their control – promoting extra sales on a flight that is overbooked if replaced with a 767 – certainly isn’t.
    Thomson I have used you for years – please hold back on selling more seats until you know that the delivery is certain.
    I believe if you continue selling seats and are unable to fulfil your contractual obligation the “get out” clause will be null and void. The class action that will be brought against your company will cost you millions.

    Thomson need to do the following to stop this PR disaster:-

    1) All passengers scheduled to depart on the Dreamliner up to the end of May should have the option of cancelling at no charge.
    2) Passengers who flights are within the ‘Select your Seat’ timeframe, should be able to select both Dreamliner and 767 options. (it’s not acceptable for Thomson to say they don’t know what 767 they are going to use. They have the manifest and know how many PE and how many Economy are booked for the upcoming May flights. The appropriate alternative 767 configuration should be selected.
    3) Those passengers who are travelling later i.e. June and beyond should be given a firm period of advance notice for the above options e.g. 90 days prior to scheduled flight date.
    4) Suitable ‘compensation’ should be offered (not just refunds of upgrades) – the money can be taken out of the Boeing penalty pot.

    ……and for goodness sake, no more stock responses that cause more aggravation than reassurance. Provide proper considered customer responses, or close this blog down.

      Regarding the ‘select your seats’ timeframe, until we know what flights are affected we would advise customers to continue to choose their seats on the Dreamliner. Once we have confirmed delivery dates, then we’ll be able to notify any future bookings that may also be affected.

    I went to orlando four years ago on the 767, a couple of the television did not work, it was a good job the plane was not full so some of us had to move futher up the plane or we would have nothing to do the full flight there is only so much reading you can do I would not have been going with thompson only for the dreamliner you can not compare the767 to the dreamliner

      Mags – that happened to us on a Thomson flight to Mexico, only there was nowhere to move to! so we were stuck without entertainment for 10 hours! We’ve also had a bad experience on premium before now too, we normally just book extra leg room and only booked premium because it was on the Dreamliner.

    Just had an interesting discussion with trading standards. If the dreamliner is not available then another plane with the same or better standards is required to be provided. This means the 767′s are most likely not good enough. Apparently thomson will be in breach of contract no matter the terms and conditions.

    If I book a rolls Royce for my wedding, it is unacceptable to provide a Nissan cherry and say its the same as you’ve paid for.

    Read my lips thomson. If I don’t get the dreamliner I,ll be expecting a large chunk of compensation or I,ll be looking to recover the flight portion of the cash back.

Got sent an email yesterday saying i could book my seats now, but didn’t seem to be able to book any, plus the seat plan doesn’t match any of your other planes (it’s a 3,3,3).     Hi, we booked our honeymoon in May 2012 leaving on May 14th 2013 to Mexico. I understand completely that the fait of the Dreamliner is out of your control, however do we have any guarantee that we will be in the premium cabin on 767 as we paid for premium seating. We surely must have been one of the first to book this holiday…. Please don’t think this is a gripe because its not I just want whats best for myself and wife to be. We have saved every penny we have to go on this once in a lifetime honeymoon and would be sorely disappointed to be flying economy after booking nearly a year ago. Thanks :) Neil

We’re currently working on contingency plans which will be in place in time if the Dreamliner is delayed by using alternative aircraft. Let me reassure you that the 767 can has the capacity to hold the same, if not more passengers in the premium cabin. Once we have all the information we’ll contact all affected customers.         Stefan, the 767 only has the capacity to seat more in PE if you go for V1 or V2 configurations – in which case the max number of passengers is 258. This means that 30 or more economy passengers could end up not flying as the Dreamliner holds around 290.
        Can you explain how you can decant a full Dreamliner into a 767 without reducing the number of PE seats i.e configuration V3 (31 PE Seats) or V4 (no PE seats). Even then you only have 283 seats.

    Norwegian’s Air communications director, Anne-Sissel Skånvik, admitted over the weekend that the Oslo-based airline won’t be getting the first of two new 787s in April and June as planned.
    They are offering full refunds to affected passengers. How on earth can Thomson continue to suggest that May Dreamliner flights are still possible if Norwegian Air have given up on June flights???

            David, come on. Leave the poor staff alone they clearly havent been told what the plan is and having a go at them wont help.

            I was am due to be flying on one of these planes in July, will I. I don’t know. It’s not the staffs fault tho. The planners will be making contingency plans and once they are in place they will let every one know.

            Am I disappointed yes. Concerned a little. I’m sure I will get on my honeymoon though. The plane trip is only one part of the package and its always a risk when you book a flight on a new plane that there could be somthing wrong with it, I mean a plane could break the morning of a flight and have to be replaced by a stand in that’s the way it works.

            Lets just wait and see, boing will be doing all they can to get this fixed. And remember there is a holiday at the end of the plane trip to look forward too.

    I paid over £6000 for our holiday at the beginning of May from EMA. When I first began organising it I didn’t even know about the Dreamliner just assumed it would be a 767 which I’d previously flown on in PE and was very happy with the flight and service we got. Yes I was really really excited about the prospect of going on the Dream liner but for me
    a) I go with Thomson as they’re the only travel company I’ll go on holiday with, have done for the past 45 years and will continue to do so. and
    b) I’ve booked to go to Florida. My expectation of Thomson is to get me and my family there safely in seats that are around 36′ pitch and have free bar and IFE ;) Anything beyond this will be a bonus. I have paid £10 each way for the priviledge of flying on the Dreamliner which I’m sure I’ll get back.
    I can understand people’s anxieties I’m in the same boat but at the end of the day venting off on these sites is not going to alter anything it just gives others more anxiety. TUI have their policies and procedures for these situations, some times you just have to sit and wait.

      its not as simple as that, what about my self who has paid more money to fly from Manchester when i could have flown from Birmingham for £100 or so cheaper? and saved my self a 1.5 hour drive?

      A £20 refund to me just doesnt cut it im affraid. all i want is to now fly from Birmingham as chances are it will be a 767 but Thomson are trying to charge customers in my situation £100, well it just isnt on coz that will mean im £200 down!

      i know i will get there safe but its all down to feeling ripped off on this occasion

      i think the big problem people have are twofold.

      1) Thomson advertised (and are still advertising the dreamliner from may). Thus people are entering into a contract in regards to mode of transport and standard that is required of that transport. The 767′s are just rubbish compared to the dreamliner and no amount of procrastination will change this.

      2) They could have got the same holiday cheaper elsewhere. I for instance could have bought the same holiday from a holiday equidistant from the airport i am actually flying from but saved over 300 pounds on my holiday.

      If anyone thinks that refunding 10 pounds is fair considering these 2 very important points then i have a metal tower in paris to sell you.

      With regard to your point a). You may reconsider this as many current customers will be.
      As for point b) Good luck with the 36″ pitch and the free bar.
      Never mind, it it all goes wrong you’ll at least get your 20 quid back.

    Fully understand the workload your under but can you advise, we booked as soon as the flights were announced for the Dreamliner flying from Manchester on 1st July in Premium Economy and wondered if a refund was an option if the Dreamliner were not available then?
    I booked my whole holiday around the Dreamliner experience and will be gutted if we can’t fly on it and would prefer to wait until the safety issues are addressed

Our priority is to ensure our customers go on their holidays, we’re putting contingency plans in place. We’d only take delivery of an aircraft if we were a 100% sure it was safe to operate, so should you not fly on a 787 an alternative aircraft with premium cabin would be provided and the supplement paid to fly on the Dreamliner will be refunded.

        Are you able to give us the opportunity to at least delay our flight due 1st July 2013 to July 2014 – so that we can fly on the Dreamliner if our areoplane was not ready in time for this year ?
        We only booked with switching from being loyal Virgin Atlantic clients because of your pioneering the Dreamliner, the thought of not flying on it will be dissapointing.
        So in my families case we would rather delay for a year than fly on what is being proposed as your alternative, a much older 767

    Jane as you did not book your holiday with Thomson because of the Dreamliner you do not understand everyone’s disappointment and upset. We booked to go on this plane (would have gone Virgin instead with a more convenient Orlando airport) whilst we understand it is not Thomson’s fault we should be given proper fair options. Others have said if you have ordered a Rolls Royce and get an old banger instead you are going to be miffed. Thomson will get their compensation and we should be given ours not just £10! It was an added experience and enjoyment to go on this plane and I for one would want a substantial discount or an option to move my holiday to go on it later.

    Hi, I know that this situation with the 787 is out of your control, however if you were more honest with people then that would put their minds at rest. We are due to fly on the 787 on the 8th May from east midlands, paid extra, also costing extra to get to airport, also costing more to upgrade to premium. Thomson wont give much compensation as previous people have said, but they will get a lot of compensation. We have been flying and cruising with Thomson for over 20 years but are now considering going with someone else. come on Thomson get your act together

    I’m supposed to be flying out to Sanford on the 4th May.
    Your replies so far say that you will inform customers of a change in aircraft when you get confirmation of a new delivery date from Boeing.
    However, you’ve already been informed that your planes will most likely be delayed.
    It therefore seems entirely possible you won’t get a new delivery date before the 1st May.
    Your answer does not seem to be good enough. At some point it seems you will have to decide what aircraft customers due to fly in May will be flying on regardless of whether Boeing confirm anything or not.
    So, for people flying in early May please could you confirm what seat arrangement they will actually get, so we can book seats?

        I think we all understand your problem, but for most of us, we just want a decision sooner rather than later.
        We aren’t booked premium, but we are a fairly large party with several small children and infants.
        What we want is clarity and to be able to reserve the correct seats to ensure we travel together.
        I believe up to 70 days before we fly we can change our booking. That’s only 7 days away. But Thomson are currently unable to confirm anything. I hope you understand this puts us all in a difficult position…

    As someone who has posted on here several times I feel that as customers we are obviously wasting our breath asking these question because every answer is almost the same. These are scripted answers that are just repeated over and over again. We have found the best place to look for information is travel weekly.co.uk this is travel industy news and appear to know a lot more than Thomson claim do. I feel as customers the only way to make ourselves heard is to talk with our feet or fingers in future and book with somone else. I’m fed up of asking genuine questions and never getting answers.     Me and my partner booked to go to mexico specifically to go on this plane, we fly out late may. We are very disappointed that this may not happen as planned but i am so shocked at some of the comments and the rudness of some of these posts… I am just as much disappointed as they rest. I understand that people are frustrated but isnt it evident enough that thompson have not got/or will not give out anymore info at this moment. Stop wasting your time and asking the same questions over and over again. They will be answered in due course.

      When people have paid so much money for something you expect to get the product you paid for. It’s basic contract law, I pay you money for a service that is described prior to purchase. If thomson wish to change the terms o the contract then the Least they can do is regun all monies then renegotiate. What they actually want is to give us horsemeat and expect to eat it. If I pay good money that I have worked hard to obtain then I expect good service. Not this silence and rubbish from any company.

    I understand that this delay in the Dreamliner being delivered is not Thomson’s fault but for a family who has been saving for and looking forward to a holiday of a lifetime in Florida for several years to read that we may not get the PE seats we booked, which to us are a crucial part of our holiday experience (it is a long haul flight) is distressing. I understand that Thomsons don’t want customers leaving in their droves but I think it would be better service to give customers the choice of a full refund at least 3 months prior to their departure date, even if you still have no info from Boeing. We were happy to go with Thomson regardless of the Dreamliner but would go elsewhere if it meant we’d definitely get PE seats as we booked and are saving to pay for :( How much notice will you give those customers affected by the change in aircraft? Of course guaranteeing a refund if we cant get PE seats is better than nothing but it won’t make up for the disappointment felt.

    Not sure if asked before, but looked at the difference flying 787 v 767 PE in September when we are flying to Mexico. Where do you get the £20 difference from ?
    E.g. Fly Wed 4th on a 767 and PE is £229pp, fly on Tue 3rd or Thu 5th and PE is £349. Means by my calculations you pocket £100pp extra profit if you get bumped to a 767. Please explain….

I Could go on but it is all on your wonderful dreamliner website anyway!!! So please tell me how a PE seat in an old 767 is as good a service as I booked for!!!!

Should we have to use an alternative aircraft, we’ll do everything possible to ensure that you get to your destination as comfortably as possible and still receive the premium 787 service from our crew on board. You’ll still receive your inflight meals, complementary drinks in the premium cabin, bar services and snacks, inflight retail and on demand entertainment and the seat pitch in economy on a 767 is 33″ and in Premium it’s 36″. As soon as Boeing confirm our delivery schedule, should there be any customers impacted, we’ll immediately contact these customers to confirm all the details.

    i have just read this in buisness news in the chicago times online boeing are planning a short term fix

    The interim fix includes a heavy-duty titanium or steel containment box around the battery cells, and high-pressure evacuation tubes that, in the event of a battery fire, would vent any gases to the outside of the jet.

    Even if the FAA agrees, the short-term fix will take at least three months to design, test, certify and retrofit, said an Everett source who knows details of Boeing’s proposed solutions.

    I go to Florida twice a year every year for the last 14 years with my family. I always have chosen to travel scheduled flights with BA, Virgin or United in Premium class seats. As Thomson were the first to receive the Dreamliner I decided to opt with Thomson as you were bold and were the first to order and receive it. I would never have considered booking on a 767 charter for a long haul flight with any company not just Thomson. Do you honestly think that after paying over £1000 per person to travel premium from Gla-SFB for 6 of my family including my 5yr and 12 yrs old children at this price I will accept being put on an old 767 and get £20 per person as compensation!!! Do you think this is being fair? Do not quote me your T&C’s as this is not the issue. Thomson offered me a flight on the Dreamliner and now cannot deliver so contract has been broken and Thomson are morally wrong here as you will be compensated by Boeing. So as a shareholder in your company I want to know why you will not pass that compensation on to your customers by offering a refund in full or a decent compensation. My flights have cost me over £7000 and you would offer me £120 compensation that is disgusting.

        I know you are waiting for an alternative delivery date from Boeing and I have read from experts, that the 787 battery/electrical problem is going to take till at least October 2013 as this is going to be a complete redesign not a quick fix. Tell everyone your “contingency plan” is now in affect and then everyone can then have a bun fight to get the seats that they originally wanted or reserved, which I know that everyone is going to be disappointed. Not only that if they have to change the flight dates, its not guaranteed that the hotel will have the rooms available.

        Get a grip, so people can plan and have a relaxing holiday. The 787 is not coming any time soon!!!!! cut your losses before you end up on watch dog.

In one of your answers below you state that if people were booked on a dreamliner and are transferred to a 767 they will be put into Premium Class is this right? We booked Premium Class on the Dreamliner that cost me £250 per person extra so will I be compensated this amount?

    Myself and my partner have picked to select our seats, we depart 6th may. I would guess when we select our seats it will be on a 787 seating plan, I’m in no way confident that this will be a dreamliner flight, so I wont hold my breath but if it is a 767 we will have to fly on, how will we be able to use our “select your seats” option and how far in advance will we be notified as there is less than 11 weeks now before departure. Also as the 767 seats less passengers than a 787 how will this also work out?

    We have Just reserved our seats in PE on the Dreamliner for 17/05.
    If, as is looking likely, the Dreamliner is not available and we move onto a 767, will our reserved seats move onto the 767 or will we need to reserve them again?
    If we have to resrve them again, I hope they have more operatirs available as there will be an awful lot of people trying to re-reserve there seats.

    I see that Boeing are putting NASA experts on all of these problems. I’ve read the Boeing website and ultimately the new batteries save weight against the old ones. The 787 has two batteries and they are saving 20kg of weight on each battery. I’m no scientist BUT put the old batteries on them until they find a solution then replace them back. Surely on a plane weighing many tonnes 40kg extra isnt gonna hurt. Thats not even two passengers luggage allowance. Just a suggestion!!

    How difficult is it to understand??…Once boeing confirm a date of deliverly…then we will be notified….At the end of the day I work hard all year and I would rather go on holiday than not…..Yes it would be nice to be on the dreamliner….however there is more important things in life to worry about….If you don’t have the answer to a question, then how can you answer it….same thing….A holiday is about the destination and time away from work….as long as I am there I dont care how i get there…..People in the world are not as fortunate to afford holidays….Thank ourselves lucky!!!!!

    I have submitted a query to Thomson via the flight only website through which I booked our Dreamliner flights in June 2012, for a departure on May 10th from Manchester to Sanford. I was not complaining, I was purely asking for confirmation that Thomson will fly us to Sanford on the 10th May as scheduled, even if it is not on the Dreamliner. Why have Thomson n to had the decency to reply to my query?

        Hi Rhiannon, I did use the online form you mentioned and still haven’t had a reply. I have contacted flight extras and been able to reserve my Dreamliner seats in Premium for the outbound flight, but not inbound as yet (which is understandable as the inbound is more than 90 days away). However, my only concern is that we must fly out to Sanford on the 10th May. There is no option for us to arrive in Florida on a later date, so as long as Thomson will assure me that we will depart Manchester on the 10th May, that’s all I’m concerned about at the moment.

    It is pointless asking questions on here, as all the answers seem to be Automated and no real personal response, the only way to get this resolved is complain to watchdog i have emailed them because Thomson have broken my agreement, that’s like signing up for a Iphone 5 Mobile contract and receiving a Iphone 3gs how would that stand in court it wouldn’t so Thomson are a joke, you have lost me for any future bookings and im sure lots of others will go elsewhere in future. Bad after sales and customer service.

    Let me guess you will respond with ……we are doing everything we can to get our delivery in the 1st may and are doing contingency plans if there is a delay…….

    So March delivery is 1000% not going to happen ‘at a guess’. With your 3 months strict testing no flights till July unless you intend to have yours delivered by sea freight. Stop saying we may get a delivery and let your passengers book alternative flights ‘FOR FREE’.

    I am booked on dreamliner to fly from Glasgow on 28/7/13 . I have mobility issues and part of my problem is that my leg doesn’t bend properly, I am concerned that if plane changed to 767 may not have enough leg room to get my leg under seat in front. The extra legroom on dreamliner was reason for booking this specific flight . Can you offer any advice as I am really anxious now.

      Hi Sheila, Our Dreamliners offer 33 or 34 inches seat pitch in Economy Club, our Boeing 767 planes have 33 inches seat pitch in Economy Club, so both planes offer the same or similar leg space.

    Thomson have now pulled all premium seats from their dreamliner flights. I’ve checked every date May and June and none available. This is obviously part of their plan when they change planes as dreamliner offered more premium than 767 so don’t want to over book as people won’t be able to have premium. Thomson a had the cheek to say its full. Clearly not as no dates available however they were yesterday.

      Hi Chard, Thank you for your question. We’re expecting a delivery of 4 commercial Dreamliners in May. In regards to putting them into service, we currently don’t have that information to hand from Boeing as of yet.

      Hi Chard following my previous comment I just wanted to clarify that I misread your question and would like to retract my previous answer with …. We’re looking at receiving 4 Dreamliners into our fleet. Currently our delivery date has not been confirmed by Boeing but we are continuing working towards our first flight on May the 1st 2013. Once we have a confirmed delivery date, we’ll be able to review our plans for putting our Dreamliners into service. If we were to make any changes we’ll contact all affected customers.

        the offcial answer is that Thomsons test new planes for 3 months for insurance and safety, although they wont tell us this. So when the no fly ban is lifted in April, they have to deliver and test, so it will be at least July before any flights starts.

        Some previous posts are aleady showing potential issues, with no PE seats available on selected dates and there are going to be alot of passengers not being able to get premium cabin seats. There is going to be a massive rush for a limited number pe seats. So its a lot of upset and for £10 compensation!!!!!!! what a joke

    We are due to fly from Manchester on Sunday 16th June on the dreamliner we have paid £310 each to upgrade to the premium club the upgrade was a lot more expensive for the dreamliner than altenate aircraft, if an alternative aircraft is used will you A) ensure the upgrade is honoured on the new air
